Because of Green Day.

I haven't kept up with the 'fits recent releases (if any) but I've got American Psycho, Walk Among Us and Famous Monsters with Michale singing and of course all of the old Danzig stuff.

Is Graves still singing for them?

I'm not a huge fan of them, but there definitely bands that are coming out that sound like them. Check out "fucked up" whenever you get a chance.

Havent posted here in some time, I was just looking around and saw this.
A band I play in played with The Misfits just recently, probably the same tour. It was Jerry Only, Dez (from black flag) and Robo (Black Flag and Misfits). We played on this crazy fucking 2,500 passenger Rock and Roll cruise boat going from Stockholm, Sweden to Helsinki, Finland and back. It was a 24 hour Garage, punk, Rock and Roll show...something like 13 bands...The Misfits, The Black Lips, Annihilation Time, Monotonix, just to name a few. It was wild.
Before we boarded the boat all the bands had to go in some small loading room...I saw Robo's dick, it was fucking weird...he wears sandals too.

same here man seeing em play tonite only made me wish i was old enough to apreciate when they were doing it as a group together can you imagine the music they wouldve made if the original misfits never broke up?do you think they wouldve went metal like danzig eventually did?or push punk into a whole nother level?

I saw Misfits in 2003 and they had Marky Ramone as their drummer! Got a few vinyl records (Walk Amoung Us is my favourite) and a limited edition (only 666 copies) picture disc that i managed to take from the cold hands of a dying man! I like them a lot but i feel its a band that should have finished a long time ago.
Anyway, anyone seen their video "Scream"? It`s directed by George Romero!

Thumbs up

I'm glad there are people out there still discovering the Misfits music. Unfortunately now a days the Crimson Ghost is more a fashion statement than anything else.

If you're new to the Misfits check out the Box Set. It has pretty much everything the original line up ever recorded (77-83) plus a disc full of alternate and previously unreleased takes. There's a cut of Halloween II on that disc that it without a doubt my favorite version of the song.

If you don't want to drop the scratch on the Box Set then you could pick up the eponymous "Misfits" (usually referred to as Collection I) and Collection II. That will get you started.

Also, check out the albums Walk Among Us and Earth A.D. Those two represent the original line up at it's peak. Earth A.D. still sounds just as brutal today as it did 20+ years ago.

The 2 New'fits albums with Graves on vocals (American Psycho and Famous Monsters) are good in their own right. A different breed of monster from the original stuff but still very much the same. Great tunes.

As for what's currently being sold as the "Misfits". Christ on a cracker. Jerry Only has ruined the Misfits. He's made things so bad that even his brother walked out on him and joined back up with Glenn. Plus the guy has a HUGE ego. I've met him a few times (back during the Famous Monsters tour in '99). What a fucking ass. I love Danzig, and I know he has an ego. The total Napoleon complex. But even compared to Glenn Jerry is a fucking tool. That guy has spent the last 10 years dragging the Misfits legacy through the mud.

Once you've made your way into the world of the Misfits check out Samhain and then move on to Danzig.

Other great "modern" punk
The Falcon
The Lawrence Arms
The Dead Pets
Wavves (well...debatable)
Sonic Boom Six (more ska and reggae elements)

Classic punk kind of died out because of its simplistic nature and because of the desire to do new things with the genre. That isn't to say that "classic punk" (Can we say that?) is bad, but it did have a very simple formula.

Also you can look into "The Germs" who are considered the inventors of punk music.

So you prefer Earth A.D to static age?

I never enjoyed earth AD for some reason.

I like the old stuff, I like the Stuff with Micheal Graves.....

The Project 1950 cover album was cool...

But I don't like the misfits as is... Jerry Only is not strong enough to carry the band live or in the studio. Kind of like listening to the stuff the doors did after Morrison died with Manzarek and Krieger on vocals.

The misfits really need a good Dirty Jersey Crooner like Micheal Graves, Glen Danzig, Myke Hideus (filled in for a while) or Jaysin Trioxin (of Mister Monster- Has declined several invitations to join).

I saw Micheal Graves and Dr. Chud's post misfits band Graves on the Web Of Dhrama tour...

Awesome shit!

People who like the reformed Misfits stuff should check out Mister Monster
