Tony Hawk: Ride

I was at TRU on Friday doing some shopping for my daughters birthday and my wife directed my attention to a display for this game. An actual wireless board with sensors and shit.........I was sorta stoked if they can pull it off.

I used to skate back in the day and loved playing Top Skater for what it was. This could bring that experience home. The board seems pretty solid and looks like it might be able to handle some abuse. I seriously hadn't even heard of this thing until I saw that display.

I haven't played or even looked at a Tony Hawk game since the early days but this one has my attention as long as it's not a major fucktwat.

Anyone know anything about this in terms of early tests/reviews, etc?

I know I say it about wii games in general,
but that sounds like too much effort.
it'll find a crowd I guess, like other physical games maybe,
like the dance dance games, but yea.
goofy.
I wouldn't mind watching someone play it though.

I gotta say that it strikes me as a last-ditch effort to try to compete with the Skate series after getting mauled in sales. No way in hell that that thing could be comfortable to use for decent-length gameplay sessions, and no way in hell would I pay for it, either.

The shark has been jumped, sez I.

It'll be interesting to see how it well it works. I agree though, the shark is here.

The shark jumped years before this. When they started putting the Jackass guys in the games that's when the shark jumped.

I watched the tutorial videos on the website earlier and I'm very intrigued by the game. It seems that you actually have to try and emulate real skateboard moves to do tricks instead of just flailing your arms and legs all over the place. I definitely want to try it out. It looks like it could be a really fun game, but then again, it could be another gimmick. I agree that I really haven't cared about the Tony Hawk games since the Pro Skater days, and Project 8 was alright, but yea, Skate is dominating right now, but of course, Ride is a very different game. I want to get it, but I'm not too sure about the price tag. But I think I read on some game site that the $120 price tag may not be final, according to an Activision rep.

It's getting pretty decent reviews online. I'm very tempted to get it. Anyone here shell out the $120 for it? I'd like to read some impressions.

I haven't seen any good reviews for this yet.

IGN gave it a 5 out of 10,
Giant Bomb gave it a 1 out of 5,
Gametrailers 4.6 out of 10,
and the new Game Informer gave it 5.75 out of 10.

Strange, I thought that one guy in his video review on Giant Bomb liked it. Guess not.

Most of the reviews I've read haven't been from the major sites, but if it's only getting 4s and 5s, I guess I'll pass or wait to see if a friend gets it.

I didn't care so much about that, cuz they fit into that whole culture. It was Underground trying to do all this stupid mission crap. It's like they saw GTA being popular, tried to combine them with skating games, and managed to fuck everything up.
