musicians and/or Linux users: Recording software?

I'm thinking of switching over to Ubuntu because I really like it and I don't really play games on my computer anymore so I don't *really* need Windows. The only things I really use my computer for other than browsing the nets and i have iTunes installed because of my iPhone.

Is there anything like Cool Edit Pro (or something like it) for Linux?

Audacity is the normal mess-with-a-waveform editor. It can't do anything fancy but if you just need to record some tracks and line them up then it works.

Hmm, well I dont necessarily need to add effects so much (maybe some slight chorus to vocals) but I will need to insert/delete time, do fade outs, add a metronome, adjust volume for individual tracks, and so on. Will audacity do that?

You can try Ardour http://ardour.org/

I think it's my favorite all-around setup. Can use it for the basic stuff like you can in audacity, as well as some more complicated production.

Well ardour is free if that's what you are implying... hahaha

But yeah for torrents, say downloading torrent releases of OSes and such, you can use Transmission http://www.transmissionbt.com/ . It's leaps and bounds beyond all the other torrent clients. Should come packaged up with a GUI and CLI version so you can even fire up the CLI one through a screen session and access via SSH and manage all your stuff.
