yeah. Just got sales stuff this week from ECL and Legend company, both having it in their new offers and sales lists. A blue pgm2 mobo pictured too.

Here's the image from ECL's email..

it's the new pgm system. It's been around for a little bit, but only has/had 2 games. It has a KOV game and oriental legends 2.....and now KOF UM. I just didn't know the specs on the system and for some reason system16 is down right now so I can't check video res output. I didn't figure it would be at the same level of type-x for some reason. Wondering what the game normally runs in.

the other pgm2 games have a red cart and mobo, like the original pgm system.

both the type x w/ I/O and the pgm 2 setup are about $700 each on their lists.

I like seeing the pgm2 get a new game. I kinda thought it was going to stop at those 2, since nothing else came out for a while.

Sounds like it could be a good system but damn only 2 games and it's been about a year? Support like that sucks.

But ya I am interested in the differences between the 2 versions of KOF98UM. I would guess the Type-X looks way better BUT since it's just SNK sprites I don't think it matters...lol

Demon Front sequel would be nice.

well, 3 games now. KOV, OL2, and KOF98um. A DF or MM sequel would be nice. I wonder what the pgm2 can push.

It was kinda weird seeing the SNK/IGS on the sales list, lol.

Just saw this over at shoryuken.com posted by Hayama Akito:

Allright guys... back on the REAL topic.

Someone at Aries no Kobayan was at the KOF98UM PGM2 loketest and commented some things... very important things that almost make this version of the game a new one!:

* PGM2基盤によるラグ減少 (Is a PGM2 game so no more loading times and slowdowns)
* ゲームバランスの再調整 (Game balance will be fixed again)
* 新技追加+性能調整 (New skills (!!!) and some original moves will be more "efficient")
* ボスキャラクターの性能調整 (Boss character will also be fixed)
* 新規ステージ追加 (New stages!)
* CPUアルゴリズムの見直し (CPU algorithm will be fixed)
* BGM、SEバグ削除 (no Bugs on BGM and SE... like the original version?)

So... lets say that this is the return on KOF98UM... AGAIN, stay tuned.

Jamma

Does anyone know if the PGM2 has a stereo output or is it just Jamma with the extra buttons for D.

I think someone on SRK said there was going to be some tweaking in the PGM2 version.

I'll go on record again saying PGM2 is awesome hardware. Some of us on here own, or have owned it. Super fun games.

KoF 98 UM sounds like a must have for the hardware, especially in the sexy blue!

I wonder if they'll have a card system with it..? prolly not.

How exaclty does the "card system" work?

also, not sure if they would port it just to move hardware, if they went ahead and changed the mobo and cart color. Seems like unnessesary work. Unless they want people who already own one to "want the blue one" like it's a ps3 slim or different color nintendo ds, lol.

Basically the cards (which are plastic like credit cards) have 1 character on them. You put them into the card reader before you start. (Card reader attaches to the mobo, which is pretty cool). Start up the game, and from that point on the card will save your level, items, stuff like that.

You can then go back and work specifically on that card and lvl up or whatever. Thats how it was with my Oriental Legends 2 kit, not exactly sure what they'd do for KOFUM...

my dream would be if the game would have a lvl. up system, where if you reached a certain level you could get a new move for the character.

Tekken & VF use IC cards, why not KOF!

pgm2 has I think 3 games out already, one was Oriental legend 2 and one was Knights of Valour New legend and the last one was some sort of horse racing game although i dont remember the details.

Also the card system is what inf said but some cards are limited and can only be used to save your characters 400 times before that card is used up but the good thing is you can always buy more cards.

I tried, and to be honest with you about the Y2, anybody here own? one? i couldn't find anything on the arcade forum.

I do know however, that they made that move mainly for pricing. Other than that if anybody has more info on that system and wants to share it, please do so!

Buying any of these boards is a bad investment. Theres no point in buying arcade boards until they've proven to be a popular platform which will at least have 30 or so games worth owning.

You dont wanna be like me and own shit thats useless.

meh, I don't buy into that at all. Then nobody would own the majority of the arcade system out there, or any of the newer arcade hardware. If people only bought arcade systems with 30+ games they would be pretty limited. lol

Ok well that wasa ball park.

Im just saying there are tons of waste of money out there in the arcade world and hardware is not often hugely excepted.

Some good buys are

Naomi 1 2 and GD
CPS2
MVS
PGM
Atomiswave is so so
Taito Type X2 is shaping up rather nicely too.

The absolute best value is a Naomi 2 with gd rom.

I disagree. I would say its worth it simply because the hardware is actually pretty cheap. Infact excellent.com were doing a used pgm2 kit with oriental legend 2 for $250 which is twice as cheap when I bought mine. Now theres no arcades around here that stock the pgm games so I cant go in and spend coins and even if there was I honestly believe I would have spent £100 in credits trying to unlock everything.

also I cant believe you think type x2 is a good buy :)

Type X2 is the currently most supported hardware. Of anything out its got the highest chance of getting a more games.

that is debateable and even if that was true there is a world of difference between paying around £190 for a pgm2 kit with a game than paying around £800 just for the type x2 hardware
