The height of frustration

I play a regular poker game with my buddies on Fridays, and at the risk of sounding like a braggart, I'm not half bad at it. I usually do pretty well for myself.

But lately... Lately I'm tempted to give up the game forever. Here's why: for the last three weeks in a row, I've had a full house (we're playing Hold 'Em, I should add, so a house is pretty much as good as it gets). All three times, I've been beaten by my friend who had a slightly better full house.

That is simply fucked... Three fucking weeks in a row, this happens? If I didn't trust the guy implicitly, I'd wonder if he was cheating. Twice I was all in too. Fucking hell.

I know how you feel. Not too long ago I played a game that was down to me and my friend's brother. My friend was already out so we was dealing to us. Both of us went all in, and I had a huge winning hand, and then on the river card ended up fucking me and helping out his brother so he ended up winning the whole game. Man, I was so fucking pissed I damn near flipped his table over, but he swore up and down that he didn't cheat me, but to this day I'm not so sure. Cost me a decent amount of cash too.

I thought this thread was going to be about erectile dysfunction.

Now THAT'S the height of frustration.

But on topic: Yes, that fucking sucks when you think your hand is hot shit and something like that happens. I don't think I've ever been beaten on a full house like that, shit's crazy.

Um, ok.

I lost therefore someone was cheating.

If you have any two cards and have a full house with the full board showing, that means there is a pair on the board and then three other cards.

So all another person has to do is share a card with you and pair another one of those cards. Or even better if they have a pocket pair and get a third on the board, the two you are using become their full house.

As for explaining how you've been all in on two out of the three hands, if two people make a full house, the betting is going to get high.

The moral of the story is to quit playing weak aces if there are over cards even if you have a full house.

Cheating as a dealer takes some serious set-up that I doubt your regular poker game has time for. Unless he is sitting there putzing around with the cards for a few minutes under the table, odds are you just got a bad beat. It is just cards.

Thumbs up

Don't enter the game expecting to rack up everytime you get a good hand.

I win just as often from bluffing on weak hands as pushing good ones.

I know what the odds were. It's ridiculously unlikely that someone would have a slightly better full house than me three weeks in a row. And like I said, I didn't actually think there was any cheating going on, I was just fuckin pissed off that this has happened to me so many times in so many weeks at the hands of the same person. I usually don't get mad when the cards don't go my way, but come on.

Make sure the cards aren't marked with invisible ink and your friend's not wearing contacts allowing him to read the marks

pokers skills is over rate it's more of luck depending on where you seat where the people hit everything... maybe you should change it up and play dealers choice.

Even if I wanted to play other games (and I don't), you can't mix Hold 'Em into other types of poker. You have to either play draw games or something that requires a buy-in.

Anyways. The sting of this third consecutive defeat is wearing off... But only a little.

When I used to play hold em that happened to me once. I had a full house, all in.. and lost marginally.

I don't play many games of luck anymore. I hate luck

I find poker to be immensly boring.

first time I was invited to a poker night I was doing rather well, but after 3 or so hours I got bored as fuck and started making horrid bets and lost it all.

To make matters worse no one flipped a table and declared "fuck this" with guns blazing

Yeah, well, talk to me when it happens to you three weeks in a row at the hands of the same guy. Pretty hard to take. lithy's right, it's not uncommon to get edged out on a house in Hold 'Em, but it's pretty nuts for it to happen all the goddamn time

Also, luck doesn't have a lot to do with Hold 'Em if you're doing it right. I often win while never having (even close to) the best hands.

It's all in the game dude. Anyone who has a full house has the confidence they have the best hand and can win so if he had a full house too then you cant do anything about it. 2 people having fulls is pretty unlikey to happen 3 times in a row or whatever but it is possible. I once had a royal flush before the river. Unfortunately the pot was only $40.

Yeah, I know. I just need some time to bounce back. I'm just saying that for the first time ever, I really don't want to play again any time soon, pretty much out of sheer frustration.

I stopped playing a long time ago. I suck at poker. Fucking poker face, doesn't help that I smile when I have a good hand or frown when I have shit.

I always play pepito though. Fun game to play. It's like poker with 3 hands at the same time top is 3 cards, middle is 5 cards and bottom is 5 cards. Bottom has to be higher than the middle and middle higher than the top.

If you've never played it you should.

I think I played that when I was a kid. Sounds awfully familiar.

I love Hold 'Em though, and so do my friends. It's pretty hard to beat the level of strategy. And, like I said, luckily I'm not half bad at it (most of the time).

well you are doing it wrong then imo, without knowing how the hands were played out it is truly hard to tell but my guess is either you under bet it or you try trapping?.

i must say i think i am pretty good myself but if i took those beats i might step away for a bit or look for cheating anyway cause in my unscrupulous days i would cheat ,friends or not.

play online?

I avoid pure luck games when it comes to gambling. I'll only play games that are predominantly skill-based, hence all the Hold 'Em. Sure, luck is a factor (which is why I made this thread in the first place), but in the long run, skill will win out.
