You could see the "Playstation Store" option in the first trailer of the home release.

DLC is terrible. It's a dumb idea and I hate the idiots that partake in these microtransactions.

Hopefully, the DLC is unimportant shit like custom themese or music tracks.

Seconded, though I think having characters as DLC's would be semi-irresistable. If that's the case, I hope they don't end up adding more than 2 characters, it would just be lame.

I seldom buy DLC, but sometimes it's worth it (the Fallout 3 stuff comes to mind). So while it's obviously a way for companies to nickel and dime us, occasionally you get your money's worth.

But to get back to the topic, if there are DLC characters, I'd be mad... That shit should be in the retail release. The only thing I'd find tolerable (though I probably wouldn't buy it) would be new BGs or music. When Scamco put Vader/Yoda up for DLC for five bucks apiece, I didn't even think about buying that shit.

Let's just hope that this DLC is not just them charging money to have the clan option on 360 and ranked matches on PS3. :shame:

DLC can be awesome, but a ripoff as wel.. The SF4 costume pack comes to mind when I think "rip-off" but the extra LBP levels are great.

The SF4 costumes are not DLC. They're just unlock keys for content already on the disc. That kind of "DLC" stinks, but I don't mind real DLC in which something is actually added to the game that wasn't originally there.

Some companies also have habits of removing content from games just to make DLC (and more money). Tomb Raider Underworld (360)'s DLC comes to mind; an ex-Crystal Dynamics employee spilled the beans about the two levels offered as downloads originally having meant to have been part of the game.

I will tolerate the DLC if it added new characters and/or game modes. I won't accept anything less

If they do have DLC chars, it will be difficult to resist even if it feels like a rip-off.

Of course, any and all DLC characters will most definitely appear standard in KoF 13. All the more reason to wait.

The ball is in SNK-Playmore's court. I placed my preorder, at full price. As have a couple of friends of mine. Bullshit DLC better not happen. I do NOT want to pay to open new colors, new modes of play, new costumes, or anything that is ALREADY ON THE DISC. Capcom has burned us with those things A LOT, unfortunately.

If it's on the disc, it better be unlockable without paid download.

If, in some random amount of time after release, you want to charge $10 to double the fighters in the game... Sure, go for it. You just have to make it worth it.

I can't see DLC happening to be entirely honest, I wish it would happen, but I just can't see it. If it does, I'll be all over that.

They really can't expect us to buy DLC when they already charged us a premium price for XII.

But they likely will. There seems to be a lot of demand from people who are willing to pay for what should have been part of the package from day one.

Maybe SNK should attempt some good will and make the boss character free and the charge us from there.

Just saw this (possible background DLC) on Ignition's forums.

Also, this has been on my mind, I forget where I saw this (I think kotaku), but they said something like, "a company only has 3 weeks from it's initial release to announce DLC, or it will not be successful (the DLC)."

anything that is ALREADY ON THE DISC.

You do realize that buying the game doesn't entitle you to everything on the disc, right? It doesn't matter what arguments you put forth; it's just dummy data until the developers do something with it. Is it annoying to have to pay for something as inane as costumes? Yes. But there's nothing inherently "wrong" with it. I just wouldn't do it. I wouldn't bother bitching about it, though.

At any rate, if they have most of the work done for some of those characters, and they add in the finalized code to use them, I'd pay for that. They're obviously not in the game for a reason... the simplest and most likely being that they just were not ready. Mature and Elisabeth were obviously completed in time for the home release, but not the arcade. It wouldn't be the same as a simple 100kb unlock key.

The update on 07-25-09 shows this picture
kofxii-3more.jpg

and says, "If you're in any way disappointed with KOF XII's 'current' roster, take comfort in the following screens (sent in by Ryan) which show the online character usage rankings. There are 3 empty slots shown, which pretty much confirms SNK is hard at work drawing up at least 3 more characters for The King of Fighters XII (and hopefully a new stage or two). The fact that there's a PSN/XBLA store link on the game's MAIN MENU also heavily suggests some epic DLC."

Just saw this too, but this could be someone making up rumors for the hell of it.

Huge RUMOR!

I cannot disclose my identity, but a VERY reliable source close to SNK Playmore has just let me in on something HUGE. Apparently SNK Playmore’s current, The King of Fighters XII, is far from complete. That is no secret. The secret however, is that SNK Playmore purposely did this. As many of you also know, a source code was recently discovered that contained code for many characters of KOF’s past. That source code, according to my source, is indeed the code for future downloadable characters. SNK Playmore/Ignition stated several times that The King of Fighters XII would not continue the Ash Saga. And they were not lying about that. What they didn’t specify however, was the true nature of The King of Fighters XII as a platform. You see, KOFXII will play host to the next KOF. That’s right. SNK Playmore will continue to add to KOFXII until they inevitably release the next chapter in the Ash Saga as downloadable content. The DLC is being referred to internally as The King of Fighters 2010. You will need your KOFXII disc to download this update. It will not be a standalone title.

That is all I will say.

thought I'd just chime in and say something.
dlc is a great way to keep people interested in a complete game.
but to release dlc for a bare bones, arguably incomplete game is
premeptively planning on taking advantage of the people
who would purchase the game in the first place.
: playmore please.
