8 1/2 actually posted some pretty detailed impressions of playing it over on the shmup boards last night for anyone interested: link (last post on that page, then some more on page two).

His take on it left me not as excited about it as I was, but I still may check it out. Really sounds like it's only Galaga in name and nothing more.

Impressions based on the trial version mind you.

Was any really expecting this to stay faithful to the original Galaga mechanics though? It sounds close enough to me though obviously there are significant differences.

I'm waiting for reviews on this though before I pick it up anyway.

The only for sure titles for me this month were Geometry Wars 2 and Castle Crashers...Braid surprised the hell out of me with it's awesomeness, so i had to purchase the full version.

I'm hoping for a game that keeps the core gameplay intact like Pac Man CE and SSIE, but adds a shiny new coat and some slight changes. I'll at least try the demo.

I honestly don't know what to make of this. Looks downright boring in the video, but I can't help but assume it gets more interesting in later levels?

Too much optimism?

Looks pretty cool to me and I've never been a huge fan of Galaga. Here's hoping the gameplay matches up with the visuals in the final build.

Galaga Legions is out, and you know what this means?

Only 1 more week until Castle Crashers!

Whoever buys it today, post impressions. I looked at the achievements and they look kind of easy. Nothing score based, only round clearing type stuff.

I'll probably buy it tonight regardless, but I'm curious to see what people think of it.

eurogamer was the first to review it - 8/10.
it says it's another great xbla summer title to pick up.
I'm buying it today(I liked revitalizing of pacman, space invaders or arkanoid so this is a must purchase for me).

Same developer did this that did Pac Man CE, I read in one of the previews, didn't realize that until yesterday. That's enough of a pedigree for me... I have just under 1600 points sitting in my account, and 800 of that will be going toward this on my lunch break.

I am going to test out the demo later today. I doubt I will buy it though since there is no multi-player. I don't expect co-op but an alternating option would be nice on games like this.

just bought it.
wow!
mechanics in this game are pretty amazing, I was expecting simple shooter and it turned out to be quite sophisticated with your satellites positioning and strategy planning.
graphics looks excellent(very sharp) and music is pulse pounding.
another fantastic game you should get :)
I'm in 3rd world hehe.

Indeed, very good game after all. Excellent work on the scoring mechanics, the graphics, everything is very nicely done.

Adventure mode is fun, of course, but, needless to say, Championship Mode is where IT'S AT.

Awesome game, blew me away, quite frankly. Way better than the video makes it look.

from level 4 action gets intense!
it's a hardcore shooter at its core.
I'm getting Ikaruga vibe from it to some extent.
love it!

Pleasantly surprised with this one. I agree, they really did a good job on keeping the scoring mechanics interesting. There's a risk/reward factor at play, which is always good. I suck at this point, but I had to stop playing right when it was starting to kind of click. What's with all these live games not having customizable controls though? Doesn't seem like it'd be that much of an issue to add that in.

This slew of great XBLA releases is what's keeping things afloat for me as far as new games go. Last game I bought was GTA IV and I'm not interested in anything else until October.

I played the demo twice (as long as it would let me) and I was impressed with what I saw. That being said, I'm not going to buy it right now because there are too many other games I want.

I'm not too big into the Rockband/Guitar Hero phenomenon. They're fun with some friends around, but I generally don't buy those types of games any more if I don't enjoy them alone too. Just wouldn't get enough play if I bought it. I played some of the first Viva Pinata... didn't much care for it. I'm just not into the virtual pet thing.

WTF is up with demos today?

Too fucking short...

I really don't know if I want to buy it or not..

Same for Bionic Commando.

You don't know if a game is good just from playing the first level.....

It's a demo. It's supposed to be short. You read the boards so you have to be aware that pretty much all of us approve of both Galaga Legions and BC:R. So just buy them already. It's a whopping $20 fucking dollars.

I've been playing this in short spurts every night. Stage 5 is a real bitch; still haven't seen the end of it. I still can't get past Stage 3 in adventure mode though. Need to practice the individual levels more and memorize the patterns. It's pretty much essential to surviving.

I have a lot of people from the boards on my friend list, and no one has this game. I guess all the people deciding whether or not to get it decided no on this one. I can't blame you that much I suppose. The game is okay, but it's real hard. I just felt like supporting the idea of a new Galaga game.
