I know alot of you guys are active on the Shmups forum, so perhaps you have seen the thread about HD Box Pro there, but thought I would share here as I just got one and it is awesome.

I connected my Ps2 to my Dell LCD computer monitor and the picture quality is great...so far I have tested all of the Ps2 CAVE ports and they all look really good. The Ps1 versions of Donpachi and Dodonpachi also look great.

This a great way to have an easily tateable monitor for shmups and way more cost effective than a Xrgb.

Here is the link if anyone wants one.

Enjoy :)

I replied to your other thread, but yes...I have one of these boxes. I'm running my supergun via component to a CRT monitor, and the results are pretty nice. The thing was dirt cheap too.

So anything with a component output. Any vids or images or reviews on this thing and its' performance on HD-TVs?

yeah, the box only has one component input. I dont have any video recording capability right now, but I'll try and take some pics in the next few days and show them here.

I dont know of any reviews out there, but Dark Penguin mentioned in my other thread that the performance on his LCD TV was not very good though....

We'll have to do a "lend it out" program or something. You basically ship it to me to see if it works with my setup and if it does, I buy one. I ship it back to you of course (the used one, not my new one).

Hey, I tried getting it running on my LCD again with MUCH better results. It just needed a lot of tweaking for better picture quality. I noted the details in your other thread.

At this point I will highly reccomend this device, as long as you have some free time to tweak the settings. I have been able to get both a ps2 and component supergun looking very nice in VGA.

The big plus for me with this device: A lot of Jamma boards won't sync to my TVs properly via component or S-video. When I output them to a VGA monitor(CRT), I have the ability to fine tune the vhold settings to correct this. Works like a charm! Stuff that would never work properly on my CRT TVs now works with no problem.

What exactly does it do?

Does it properly upscan 480i component?

Or does it just transcode progressive signals?

Does it accept RGB?

There is a more detailed thread over @ shmups:

I'm not a tech guru with the finer points of upscaling, so I can't tell you about the science behind it. But for $55 this thing does a very nice job of sending component from my consoles and my neobitz supergun to a VGA display.
I haven't tried progressive scan from my consoles yet, but I will at some point.

It only has the single component input, though. With the price of the XRGB units being at a premium, this box is definitely worth a look.

I posted these over @ shmups too, but here are some pics of an MVS board(via supergun) running through this box. Trust me, these photos do not do this thing justice:

Yep...according to their documentation, it'll accept both standard and HD component signals. I haven't tried an HD component signal yet, but SD looks pretty damn good once you've taken the time to tweak it for your monitor/tv. I almost bought an XRGB, and now I'm pretty glad I got this instead. Probably saved myself several hundred bucks when you factor in import costs, etc.
