Dkap01 (David Kaplish) is a scammer!

I bought from him a homemade portable Neo Geo MVS. It was supposed to be the same one shown on his website:

http://customportables.com

The cost on it was $405, plus $25 shipping. I sent him paypal payment for $430 on 12/23/07. He emailed me and said he would ship it on 1/2/08. He never did. When I sent him followup emails, he never responded.

On 1/26/08, I filed a paypal dispute, and escalated it to a claim. He never responded to either the dispute or the claim.

On 2/6/08, because he never responded, Paypal resolved the dispute in my favor. However, they only refunded me $200 because that is the limit they cover. They sent me the following response:

Paypal said:
After careful review, this claim has been decided in your favor and
$200.00
USD has been credited to your account.

This is the maximum amount covered by PayPal. If your claim was for
more
than the amount recovered, the outstanding balance is due from the
seller
and we will make our best effort to recover it for you.

I only got $200 back, and dkap01 still owes me $230, which I now have to file a credit card dispute with my credit card to get credit back for the remainder.

Beware this seller, and do not buy anything off of his website:

http://customportables.com

Also, his ebay ID is dkap01.

Sorry to hear that Bibliophile. It really sucks when you deal with a jerk like that. I didn't know that Paypal has a maximum that it will reimburse you. Good to know. It seems that great advice you gave earlier (can't remember which thread) about using your credit card when you use Paypal, paid off. I'll have to remember that in the future. Hope all goes well with your credit card reimbursement and thanks for the heads up on this scammer.

Yes, Loegan.

If I had used my checking account instead of my credit card, I would have no recourse right now. But at least when you use your credit card, you can file a dispute with the credit card company if Paypal doesn't resolve the issue. Plus, credit card companies are required by regulations to actually investigate the matter rather than just rubber-stamp grant or deny it, as Paypal is notorious for doing.

DAVID KAPLISH (Dkap01@pacbell.net) is a scammer, BEWARE!

I got burned by this a$$-monkey as well. I ordered an N64 portable late December 2007 for $300., -was promised to arrive the first week of January 2008. I filed with Paypal, escalated, and won the case due to lack of response from the seller. However, Paypal failed to reimburse the $300., stating they are "in the process of recovering the funds" and that the seller "has no available balance" to recover the funds from.
After tracing his IP's and contacting his ISP, I contacted the Ventura police department to file an electronic fraud complaint, as well as IC3 to assist in getting this piece of $#%t brought to justice.
Approximately 5 days ago, his ebay account: (Dkap01) went offline.

This is the most recent address of the scammer:

If interested, I will post all known address and telephone records for David and Tonya Kaplish to "assist" other victims. If any of you have further information about this guy, please post.

After viewing the build pics I can say that no one should buy that especially sine it's a bootleg MV1C, not even authentic SNK parts. :oh_no:

damn biblio, you seem to have bad luck with traders here. Hope he will somehow come through

Actually, he is the first person here that I dealt with that I have labeled a scammer. If you are talking about SNK-NEO-GEO, he sent my items. He just misrepresented their condition big time.

Xian Xi, to be honest, I don't know how to tell a real MVS from a fake one. How can you tell from the pic that it is a bootleg?
Oh man, where to begin. ;) Windowed EPROMs, chips w/ generic markings (instead of the normal SNK), horrible surface soldering, peculiar unmarked non-SNK PCB design. In addition to the above observation, normally the MV-1C (only vertical loading SNK 1 slot) has a socketed fuse near the JAMMA connection. :(

No, you must be thinking of someone else. I don't throw out the word "scammer" too easily, until I am certain that it is deserved.

Hello guys,im a Jaguar fan and bought a Jaguar portable in December of ebay from dkap01 (David Kaplish) and when i recieved it it did not work. He said he stood by his work and said he would fix it if i sent it back,he also wanted me to send back another Jaguar portable so he could fix the D-pad, it was his first Jaguar portable he ever made. Anyway Tonya Kaplish signed for the package 2 days after i sent it on February 4th. I have noticed that he closed his ebay account and he doesnt return emails or phone calls. Im very mad and i plan on taking legal action against him, regardless of how much it costs me. I paid $450+ for the portable. If you guys want your money back them we need to work together . Thanks for your time and all comments ,questions and opinions are more than welcome.

Whoa,this takes me waaaaaaaaaaaay back.

This fucker scammed me about what, 5-6 years ago? Right at this board to boot.

I bought 5 games from him for $105, never did anything. Nobody helped me either. It was the Toukon Retsuden series.

He just stopped coming here, he wasn't banned or anything.

If it will assist in your case, I will gladly scan and forward it.

@BuddyBuddies
I couldn't agree more. What do you have in mind?

Anyone else make any progress or have any updates on this toolbag Dkap01?

Looks like he's also taken advantage of some ppl he lured in from a few physical-disabiltiy-gamers boards
Reading this shit really burns me up. Seems as though he's put a good amt. of time and effort into building a "fair" rep out there before he began taking peoples money.
