I've been rolling over UESP's Oblivion guide in an attempt to make a tank character, which is something I haven't done since ES III. I find that it makes it easier to enjoy the multitude of sidestories the game provides. Though ESIV is only challenging if you choose it to be, here's the skinny on pimped out character (UESP has theirs, but mine's better :) ) equipment.

Class: Breton (important class, comes with 50% resist magic)
Level: 25+ (a majority of the equipment doesn't appear until this level)

Head: Crown of Lindai

This is an item you should obtain when you're level 25+ because, like most items in Oblivion, the Crown is a leveled item and its properties only get better as you advance in levels, with a cap on its properties at level 25 or higher. Anyway, you can obtain this item in the Secret of the Ayleids quest. Properties: Fortify Illusion 15pts, Fortify Alteration 15pts, and Resist Magic 35%.

Shirt: Shirt of Fire Shield

This is a custom enchanted item. Use any shirt you like, along with a transcendent sigil stone. Sigil Stones are obtained by closing an Oblivion gate, and transcendent sigil stones only appear with a character level of 17+. As you close a Oblivion gate the stone you pick up is random, so be sure to save before you grab the stone, and simply reload your save if you do not get the proper enchantment. After you have to proper stone just attach the stone to the shirt of your choosing. Properties: Fire Shield 25%, and Armor Rating 25pts.

Wrists: Wrists of Resist

This may be tough since the only enchantable wrist equipment you can get are the prison links you wear at the very beginning of the game. There are ways to get more prison links, but I don't know of them, so hopefully you held on to these or stashed them somewhere. Anyway, again use a sigil stone, this time with a resist magic enchantment. Properties: Resist Magic 20%.

Pants: Pants of Frost Shield

Like the Shirt of Fire Shield, the Pants of Frost Shield involve taking any pants of your choosing and enchanting them with a transcendent sigil stone of frost shield. Properties: Frost Shield 25%, and Armor Rating 25pts.

Shoes: Shoes of Lightning Shield

Like the shirt and pants (do we see a theme here?), the Shoes of Lightning Shield involve taking any shoes of your choosing and enchanting them with a transcendent sigil stone of lightning shield. Properties: Lightning Shield 25%, and Armor Rating 25pts.

Shield: Escutcheon of Chorrol

Obtained in the quest Sins of the Father. You should not obtain this until you are level 25+ so that you get the best possible properties from the item. Properties: Reflect Damage 35%, Fortify Endurance 10pts, and 22.5 Armor Rating.

Amulet: Necklace of Swords or Amulet of Axes

These items are character level 20+ random boss chest and boss enemy item drops. Depending on how lucky you are, either of these may come quickly or take awhile to get. The only way the differ are that the necklace of swords will fortify your blade skill by 25 points, while the amulet of axes will fortify blunt for 25 points. Properties: Reflect Damage 33%, and Fortify Blade/Blunt 25pts.

Ring: Ring of Iron Fist

The ring of iron fist is a level 20+ random boss chest and boss enemy item drop. Properties: Reflect Damage 33%, and Fortify Hand-to-Hand 25pts.

Ring: Ring of Vitality

The ring of vitality is a level 20+ random boss chest and boss enemy item drop. Properties: 100% Resist Poison, 100% Resist Disease, and 100% Resist Paralysis.

...so again, your equipment should be...

Head: Crown of Lindai
Shirt: Shirt of Fire Shield
Wrist: Wrists of Resist Magic
Pants: Pants of Frost Shield
Shoes: Shoes of Lightning Shield
Shield: Escutcheon of Chorrol
Amulet: Necklace of Swords or Amulet of Axes
Ring: Ring of Iron Fist
Ring: Ring of Vitality

Strengths: Congrats, you're the man. This equipment set provides...

101% Reflect Damage
105% Resist Magic
100% Resist Poison
100% Resist Disease
100% Resist Paralysis
25% Fire Shield
25% Frost Shield
25% Lightning Shield
Fortify Blade/Blunt 25pts
Fortify Hand-to-Hand 25pts
Fortify Endurance 10pts
Armor Rating 85pts

Breakdown, Strengths
You are now immune to melee, normal weapon, and creature attacks. All attempts by the enemy to attack you in these ways will result in their defeat. Enemy missile spells will have no effect on you. You cannot be poisoned, weakened by disease, or paralyzed. The 85pts (the total is actually 87.5, but the game caps armor rating at 85) in armor rating is better than a full set of daedra armor. Your character's the shit, walk in the world of Cyrodiil thusly.

Breakdown, Weakness

What, I can still be hurt? Yup. Damage from arrows cannot be negated, only curbed; that's where the 85pts in armor rating come in. 85pts in armor rating means you only take 15% of the damage from an arrow hit. Also, though you are immune to normal weapons, you are not immune to enchanted weapons. Weapons with fire, frost, and lightning enchantments will do damage in those areas. The shields of 25% in each of these areas will curb the damage you take. And lastly, you can still die by: falling, swimming in lava, drowning and being hit by a shitload of arrows.

Final Thoughts

This is just one way to play Oblivion. Of course, you could make a 100% Chameleon suit and experience absolutely no consequences, but what fun is that? Anyway, hope this helps and have fun collecting these items.
