Good call by the Aussies, never liked plasma.

What are you, stupid?

Regardless of what you like, a nice plasma has some of the best picture quality you will find. Better than LCD in most cases.

Picking on a certain type of TV while people drive huge SUV's around makes no sense at all, and I'm sorry to see Aussie politicians doing something so silly.

Doesn't Australia have like the highest per capita output of Co2* in the world.?

And obesity?

Sensationalized Baloney.
I doubt that will ever happen.

In reference to the Co2 comment.
The largest producer of Co2 emission is a volcano.
What exactly are we going to do about that?
Human produced Co2 emission is just a drop in the
bucket compared to Nature.

I wouldn't mind using a plasma if all I did was watch TV or movies.

But to play video games on...I'd rather have a CRT, LCD or LCOS.

I still use an HD CRT but I'm sure eventually I'll have to get one of the newer techs but are plasmas really that bad for games?

No, they're not. Quite the opposite in fact. I use mine all the time for PS2, Xbox, PS3 and X360, and it works great.

What a stupid post...

Maybe you should stick to the subject (video games).

Nature is also the largest absorber of Co2 you dumb bastard. In fact, it is a Net absorber.

How do you think all that carbon in fossil fuels got into the earth in the first place? Yep! nature absorbed it and took it with it.

And unlike man, nature is not increasing CO2 output at an alarming rate.

About the same as any other HD technology, save CRT's.

You do have to watch out for burn-in if you're going to be playing older games though. To be more precise, you have to watch out for burn-in if you're playing the same older game a LOT, and you aren't watching much TV.

they were talking about it today that they were going to give them till 2011 to improve the efficiency of the sets, then ban any that didn't meet the standard, by then there will be some other technology anyway probably.

Yes, I agree with this. I've heard this volcano argument many times, yet nobody has actually produced any numbers associated with eruptions and the amount of CO2 per eruption. Does this statistic exist? I'm not trying to be an asshole, but I have never seen a real statistic on this matter.

I think you have to be rational about global warming. When you talk about the natural history of the planet, we are at a historically high level of CO2 in the atmosphere. It's a fact. But even if we aren't sure that we are the reason for this, wouldn't it just be prudent to take sensible measures to reduce our unnatural output of CO2 from fossil fuels into the atmosphere? While that might mean banning plasma's, couldn't we ban all incandescent lightbulbs? There is no reason to have them anymore.

Also, since gas is so expensive due our consumption, in large part due to SUVs, shouldn't we be taxing SUVs and giving tax breaks on hybrids? I don't think these are drastic steps to take, and it would be a effective step in the right direction. There are economic and political benefits from getting off oil as soon as possible, and at least reduce our consumption right now. I also personally believe that being reasonable about energy is a real way to support the troops, as corny as that sounds.

This is pretty much true, I play FFXI alot and I will have to admit after playing it for 28 hours or so and then going to watch movies you can see the FFXI life bars burned into the screen for about 2 days after...but after 2 days of watchin movies and using the PC etc...the burn in FFXI (life bars, and other stuff) just fade out of the image. But its enough to make me not want to play FFXI on my plasma anymore since I play for such long play periods, but for stuff like Neo-Geo, 3DO, PS2, PS3 Wii etc... I never see any burn in and they play spot on with no lag like you get on an LCD. I personally love my Plasma and wont go back to CRT, except for FFXI perhaps.

The only thing I hate about the Plasma is I cant use Gun games on it from 3DO, PSX, PS2 etc... only the ones from Wii work (because of the sensor you put on top of the Plasma)... but for all other games Plasma works great. Sadly the Plasma/LCDs/DLPs have shitty black levels compared to the CRTs but other than that they seem better in near every other area. At least for me.

You're ignoring the fact that all but the newest models run at 1024x768, right? And that they can't natively display 480i/p? And the cost?

I'm not exactly sure what or who you're trying to refute with this statement.

However, there are now quite a few plasmas running at 1920 x 1080 these days. And no, they can't natively display 480i or 480p, as the native resolution is fixed. But neither can LCD, or any other reasonably-priced flat panel.

If you want 480i, you're pretty much stuck with a nice CRT.

My point is, you need a high-end model to display HD resolutions well, and none of them display SD resolutions well. At least all LCD HDTVs are at least 1280x720 (and have square pixels).

You shouldn't talk so much about stuff you know nothing about.

I don't know if you consider Panasonic to be high-end, but their plasma TV's do both SD and HD really, really well.
