ATX PSU and Supergun question

My Supergun PSU is dead so I decided to get me an ATX PSU to use with it - I got a Micro ATX PSU. It seems that when I short pins 14 and 15 to switch the thing on, it works for a fraction of a second and turns off again - it seems that unless it has something to power, it wont work.

Is there a way around this?

THanks!

Are you leaving it shorted or doing it only momentarily?

Some PS's require a draw to stay on. What I did was get a power resistor (the big white ceramic fused resistors) and hook it up to one of the extra power wires I was not using. This will allow you to test it and such but as long as you have a board hooked up it should stay on...so you shouldnt need it other than for testing. You may have a custom power supply. I have an AT style supply that has an extra set of wires coming out of it that requires a draw at all times to allow it to stay powered on...which is the reason I picked up the high wattage resistor in the first place. Are all the wires coming out of it either going to the ATX connectior or colored red/yellow/black or are there some other colored wires going to a power connector? What is the model/maker of the PS...maybe there is some more info online about it relating to something special you may have to do or to how much draw you have to place on it to keep it powered on.

It's best to find an older PC power supply that doesn't have that stupid 3.3v output.

Did you check if you had any of the power connections touching each other? I had ground make contact with 12v before and had the power shut off, but it'd go back on after spreading out the connections and flipping the switch to off and back to on.
