so I blogged my Epic journey across Washington state to Idaho to pick up a Neo Geo MVS. It's in decent shape. It's a single slot with World Heroes...I want to restore it... it works, but. its kinda beat up.

Where to begin?!

A good starting point would be linking to your blog instead of the "my blog" link (that, in my case, loads my blog). :)

Seriously, where to start depends on what the cab needs. If the monitor is blurry, I'd start with a cap kit. If you don't like the sticks or buttons, replace them. If you're looking for games, check out Yaton.

Drive up to Bothell and buy the games I'm selling in my selling thread. ;-)

I'd love to read your blog though. Fix the link. :)

sorry, i opened up my blog and just copy and pasted it. Well I replaced the link to my Livejournal. anyway, the monitor looks like it has a bit of burn in. the sticks and buttons i was going to replace but after getting the machine, i think they'll do. i wiped it all down but i think I'm going to do that again because it still is kinda mangy looking.

Nice.

How much did you pay for your cab? And where is that arcade store located (as in, what's the address)? I may have to visit it in the near future. How are their prices?

Now that you have a Neo Geo, one piece of advice: resist the temptation to purchase every single MVS cart. And make sure you don't overlook ShockTroopers -- it's probably my fave MVS cart, definately in my top 3 at least.

(And FYI this would probably be more on-topic in another forum, like general discussion)

Either way it's fucking heavy.

Awesome writeup. I'd put a better monitor in. Paper bezels? no.

No.

maybe 300 at the most.

Anyway nice cab man.

the guy who helped us move it (he's a mover) said it weighs more than 500. which is what i thought it might weigh. so I was just going from someone with experience. I'm only 110 pounds, so that'll tell you what the most I've lifted is. xD

that killer cabs link doesn't work! I can't see your write up!

as for the address it's 509 ceader street, wallace idaho. I paid 99 dollars for it! I won it on eBay.

I picked up a Neo Turf Masters 1 slot arcade a few weeks ago....It seems to work good. Cleaned the buttons and bought more games for it! I paid 300 and a 6 hr round trip. Blew a hose on the way back and water went everywhere...boo, but it was worth the trip.

Such Myspace pictures, then you DID put one on Myspace. I wouldn't mind taking those pinball machines off an operator's hands.

Thats awesome man. My trip wasn't as long as that for my neo. I would say yours weighs in at like 250. Mine was more like 300 and its a 25" monitor 4 slot. ENJOY!

I think we have proved ourselves as arcade fans

Damn J69... Word man, above and beyond mate.

@ XxHennersXx $99 ? You look well pleased heading back on that deal :buttrock:
Killer cab site is a given but the tech forum here should prove useful with
specific asks as you know.

Nice
Get some carts now fella.

Hell yeah. I was looking for a good priced AES on eBay and saw the MVS link at 99 dollars in the next state over. I showed my friend and was like "such a good deal" and i wasn't intending to buy it. He goes "HENRY. BUY IT. WE'LL ROAD TRIP DOWN THERE TO PICK IT UP." So I did. Ha ha...

edit: how do i open up the control panel??

There are 2 latches inside the machine under the controls. Stick your arm into the coin door and find them.

Not much to do about screen burn. If you want to 'restore' you could start with a new monitor. Or you could start with cosmetics like paint on the outside of the cab (replacement art is available). For $99 you got a great deal!!

I would start with more games, and sanwa sticks and buttons for the control panel. For budget games, check yaton on ebay!

Which revision motherboard did you get in it? can we have some pics of the inside of the cab in your blog?

cheers and best of luck!!

It depends what he means by screen burn. If the problem is in the chroma, then a good degauss could do wonders in terms of apparent sharpness etc.

My uncle and father always had good success with bulk tape erasers, if you've got access to one of those :D

Otherwise they sell degaussing wands.

Nice blog and many mountains^^

As an essential game you should get Twinkle Star Sprites and yes, Metal Slug and Samurai Spirits series.

I love that game, but the market value on it is IMHO too high to justify it at the moment. Especially when it's available on other platforms.

Well, on the Saturn at least. It's on my to buy list, but it's well down it since I have access to the Saturn version already.
