Any of you have a for "HONGKONG" use only? My pcb's the exact same layout as the Japanese version down to last detail of component placing and heat sink shape (compared to photo) minus the raizng/eighting branding.

I smell a boot but the hardware looks the same...

oh, and did I mention the menu selection is in english. :eek_2: There is no MAME set for the version I have.

The date is shown as Dec 22, the first Japanese revision. But the codes are permanently unlocked like the korean version.

Update, just to add to the confusion. Look what I uncovered:

This still doesn't answer if mines a bootleg or not. :help:

There is no Raizing/8ing stamp next to the jamma edge. Only other differences I can tell between that and a normal one are the Actel processors(?) are socketed.

I can get into debug mode like I managed to do with the JapRevB MAME set. There are a ton of regions listed, HONGKONG being one of them. Mine just happens to boot to HONGKONG normally.

I found this photo, I'm pretty sure those are MX eproms shown, just with stickers over the windows. This one has the Raizing stamp however. If you look at the actel chips in that photo, you can see the outline around them for the sockets that are shown in mine.

just thought i'd add to the confusion aswell.

I recently picked up a "hongkong" Donpatchi PCB, it's exactly the same as the jap version. however no atlus logo on the board instead there is an AAMA sticker where it would be.

there are a ton of atlus chips on the board so i'm sure it's legit...

If it was a boot, I'd expect to see maybe a different shaped pcb. Based on how many regions were originally intended to be distributed to (based on debug settings). It wouldn't surprise me if a few such official boards were released outside Japan and Korea.

Kind of odd there's no logo. But hey, the menu's in english so that's a plus.

Debug mode in itself is pretty neat, not only does options and language change. But hitting start during gameplay will pause the game.

I dunno man... those two PLCCs on APB shouldn't be socketed me thinks:spock:

DDP looks right though

I'd think so too, but you can see the outline for them printed on a normal APB pcb.

now that I'm looking at mine, the chip brands and locations even match... I wasn't aware that there were APB boards with socketed PLCCs... I don't think a bootlegger would go through that much trouble.

I say its legit

The fact that the chips are socketed (that normally aren't) is a dead giveaway that a board is most likely a bootleg, but in this case it appears to be some sort of early revision of the APB board. The traces even match up.

If you look at MVS bootleg PCBs, you'll notice almost every logic chip is socketed, same with other bootleg PCBs i've seen such as Strikers 1945 II.

PS: Might wanna cover those EPROM windows.
