New Order split: It's official

After months of speculation, New Order have finally confirmed that they have split.

The news follows months of uncertainty, and a confirmation by bassist Peter Hook at the beginning of the month that the band had decided once and for all to go their own way.

Speaking to BBC 6 Music, Hook seemed upset as he explained the situation.

"It has been very sad actually, and it has been very difficult to live with, but that is life, isn't it?" he said. "But you pick yourself up, you dust yourself off, and you start all over again."

Pushed to give a reason for the split, he replied simply, "It's personal."

They've been around for quite a while, and they had a good run.

Still, it's sad to see the band dissolve.

I consider True Faith to be one of the top five songs to truly capture the essence of the 80's.

Yeah, most bands break up toward the end as opposed to the beginning. ;)

Yeah, I didn't know either, I was looking through some music stuff and saw that.. my fav band.. DEAD. I never got to see them live.. and this REALLY pisses me off.

The only thing that could make me happy would be Bernard touring and just doing the first 2 Electronic albums live.

I heard about this quite a while back, but that doesn't make it suck any less. :(

Two of my three favorite bands have broken up in the last 16 months..sucks.

Can't complain about a long discography like that though. NO produced more great music together, and seperately via Revenge, The Other Two, Electronic, Monoco, than most other bands could ever dream of, and I'm thankful for all of it.

I'm going to listen to Movement now.

Ouch..

That's some painful news to hear. It's a shame, I honestly thought the newer stuff seemed to have a whole new energy to it, I thought the group was still going strong. Hopefully Barney Sumner and Peter Hook move on to other projects and continue their incredible work.

Few bands have been through as much of a rollercoaster ride as Joy Division/New Order and stayed as strong as they have. Thankfully New Order managed to stay on point making amazing music for their entirety, rather than pumping out stale dross before folding like so many other artists do.

Well, I'll be sure to have a drink for the Manchester boys tonight and blare some World in Motion. I'll miss the hell out of this band.

They had a great run. Plus I have 20 years worth of their tunes + the 4 years of Joy Division tunes to listen to.

Still....a few more gems like Blue Monday would have never hurt anyone.

I'm not much of a fan of the newer stuff, but I love their music from the Joy Division days up to Republic. A great band who will be sadly missed.

Temptation...one of my favorite songs ever.
Substance just knocks me on my ass.
Great band...but they certainly lasted longer than most.
It's not as if they didn't leave behind enough awesome material.
