KOF XI...alternate method to unlocking characters?

Someone on the gamefaqs board mentioned that they unlocked characters by simply dying a whole bunch of times on the challenges. For example, he/she died over 50 times on challenge 24 and claimed to have unlocked Tung Fu Rue, Mr. Big, and Geese (the others were unlocked already I guess). Anyone know if there is any truth to this? I'll try it later tonight if I have time.

Update #1: Confirmed! I tried it, and I died roughly around 50 times (I forget the exact number) and I unlocked Mai and EX Kyo. My fiance is doing it again for me this time. Hopefully more characters will be unlocked.

Update #2: Did it again, and this time unlocked Tung, Mr. Big, and Geese! Sweet! Hopefully this will work for the rest of the characters I don't have, and I won't have to do those stupid ass challenges!

Or you can just upload the save like I did.

Believe me, I wish I could download the save, but I don't have a means of putting it on my PS2 memory card.

Last update for the night, I tried the 50 loss thing again, but nope, nothing else unlocked. So, I still have yet to unlock Gai, Jyazu, Sho Hayate, and Silber.

According to Gamefaqs, I have to beat characters with LDM's before match 4 in arcade mode. Question though (and I know this is gonna make me sound like a super noob) but, what exactly is an LDM? I mean, I know DM = Desperation Move, SDM = Super Desperation Move, but what is LDM? Leader Desperation Move? Because I tried that, and it didn't work.

I can only get to meet Gai, Adelheid, and Sho with that method.

u can change the system settings. so jack up your defense to 8 and their to 1
inf super and level 1 cpu AI. to make it easier to unlock shit since your not going the challege way. i think if u win all 40 u get all the arcade stuff unlocked?

Heh heh, ah damn. Wow Yo-Yo Boy, I didn't know I could do that.

But anyways, I did it! Everyone is unlocked, and I did it the old fashioned way (DM and LDM-ing the shit out of everyone in arcade mode). But I'm kinda glad I did it anyway, it was good practice and gave me a good feel for the game.

Still, I would reccomend to anyone having a hard time unlocking characters to go to Challenge 24 and just die a lot (you'll die with just one hit and you can keep hitting Retry). Less than a week after having the game (considering I play maybe only an hour or so a day) I unlocked all the characters.

Thanks very much for posting this, now I know what LDM means and if I get stuck trying to unlock the characters I'll just let them beat the crap out of me and try my hardest to earn the rest of them.

I'm about 3/4 of the way through challenge mode. I've already got Mai even though I haven't beaten challenge 20 yet, but all the rest I've been able to earn.

Unlocking Geese (challenge 40) is a real pain, since it's mostly luck whether or not you win. I did find though that if you stand right next to Terry (i.e. throwing distance) he will do his projectile much less often making your chances of connecting Geese's hcb + B much higher.
