Dunno if anyone's done this before (probably), but I overclocked my MV-1H just now. I fed it 14.8mhz and it seems to be running fine. I'm going to pick up some more oscillators tomorrow so I can feed it more :chimp:

Would anyone be interested in a guide on how to do this? I'm thinking of adding it to my site...

If it actually runs games like Last Resort and Viewpoint without any slowdown then Im intrested very much. I think many Neo-Geo games would benefit from this, as I could play all games (shooters basically) at level 8 and not watch it slow down to almost a crawl.

well i just played through Metal Slug X and the results were AMAZING. All the little places where I expected slowdown (like the burning aliens on the first stage) were gone. All the boss explosions are now slow-down free and completely fluid. Even the most intense mania that I caused on the beginning of level 4 didn't slow down much at all....I'm really surprised at the difference it has made with just a 14.8Mhz!

and....no glitches at all :)

Metal Slug 2 would be a good test to check for any flaws/glithces with the upgrade.

Yea, I'm sure it's possible...probably a very similar mod.

Nice x) Now we'll be able to play Metal Slug without a bit of slowdown. I'm anxious to see the guide :buttrock:

I'm anxious to see if anything on his board blows up.

This sounds impressive but what about t3h h38t?

Not sure overclocking the processor would fix the slow down.
Perhaps memory allocation is more of an issue ?

Next we will see liquid cooling systems and big pimpin Alienware cases with neon ground effects and German steel ball bearing silent fans

Sounds pretty sweet though.

I've been checking on this. 2 chips get slightly warm but that's all. I'm sure they'll heat up when I use higher clock frequencies though, so I'll be putting on heatsinks.

It already has in Metal Slug... :)

Oh man thats sick! Does the sound loose synch with the system overclocked? Also, do low-meg games run too fast with the overclock mod? Last, how how does the system get? Will there be a need for a cooling solution?

Good stuff man.

Oh yeah, do you have a video of gameplay? Or even a picture of the mod?

Peace,
Bill

Have any of the games you tested run too fast? I would think that using higher clock speeds would artificially speed up games like playing a 10 year old pc game on a Pentium 4 without adjusting the speed.

10 years ago they still had framerate limiting. Now, 20 years ago...

MV-1H? Is this an uncommon board version? Anyway, I would appreciate some instructions. I wouldn't need pics or anything, just a brief explanation of what you did.

Overclocking like this has been discussed before in a thread here. One person had done the same and tested many games, many had some sort of glitching problem but some were fine.

Ah, so only the Slugs run with this mod it seems. Well, it is possible to switch the clock on going to the processor such that you can use it only for the Slug games ;)

Urgh... that's not so good.

Cheque please!

It should run just fine. The Neo Geo shares the same CPU as the Genesis, which I've had running at the same speed. (at one point or another, I've had a lot of my systems overclocked) Never bothered doing this with a Neo Geo, but the principle is not new, and is pretty much the same: Feed a new clock frequency via an external oscillator. I'd recommend using a toggle if you haven't done so already.

What if you did a cpu swap with the 68000 to a 68010? RobIvy did it over in the gamesx.com fourms and got rid of some slow down without changing the clock speed. It was on a 68 pin long chip though and not the square one. Anyone know if that would be a option instead of a clock speed change?

Apart from this...

Puzzle Bobble: Has a large section of graphics missing in bottom right hand corner. It is a rectangular black bar.
Last Blade 1: Occasionally characters will flicker and dissapear quickly
Last Blade 2: Occasionally characters will flicker and dissapear quickly. After the round is finished with the character victory screen, a part
of the background is missing (large black square)
Blazing Star: Major graphics corruption. Black squares and flickering squares of garbled data.
Kabuki Klash: Flickering squares of garbled data.
League Bowling: Flickering squares of garbled data.

The fact is that most games have many problems.

And these are just the games he tested during his overclocking adventure.

Thats right but you have to remember that the overclock is not really needed for the fighters. Its mainly the shooters and metalslugs that need it.
