I WAS LOOKING THROUGH THE NEO PAGES ON EBAY WHEN AND I SAW A US AES KING OF FIGHTERS 2000 AND THE PRIZE BLEW ME AWAY THEY'RE ASKING $2000 THAT'S JUST WAY TO MUCH MONEY . NOW THE BIG QUESTION IS IT REALLY THAT RARE, ON THE BACK OF THE MANUAL IT SAYS "NEO GEO FREAK" DOES THAT MEAN IT'S ONE OF THE COPYS THAT DION SOLD, HOW CAN YOU TELL IF IT'S AN AUTHENTIC SNK PRODUCT AND NOT NEO GEO FREAK STUFF.

They were the only ones that produced a "US" version of the game. they claim that SNK gave them the rights to produce an american version and considering there are limited copies, is considered rare.

But it is not an official SNK game. Most Neo collectors know this so unfortunately only the unenlightened and naive would bid on this thinking they'll be getting something valuable.

BTW, try not to type in all caps. It makes you seem like your shouting.

EDIT: Looks like Kenny is selling it. Out of curiosity, am I the naive one? Or is the NGF version actually produced with SNK's blessing?

Is this a fucking joke?

Even for Kenny, this is absurd.

BTW, when you type in all caps, YOU LOOK LIKE A DIPSHIT!

Freaked carts aren't worth shit. Conversions aren't that hard, and any dumbass could print out some new stickers and a manual.

Bobak, we need to stickie shit like this because I swear this questions comes up EVERY SINGLE TIME this game hits the open market.

The game is official. There are between 50-100 copies in existence, hard to quantify because Dion is a liar. NGF purchase the rights to sell the game, the JPN carts and the artwork files for the US version. They subsequently modified the artwork files to incorporate their logo and printed them in the US. The main problem is that Dion lied about where the game was printed (US and not Japan) and about the original versions of the artwork files (did not include the NGF information). Still, they purchased the rights and released the game, so it is official in that regard and is an elusive home cartridges for those who wish to complete their US home cart collection.

The boards are authentic as these were authentic JPN carts. The only artwork that can be considered authentic is the professionally printed run of inserts/manuals/cart stickers that were originally produced for the 50-100 copy run. This does not include Dion's printer copy with the NGF logo on the spine, nor does it include any subsequently produced art. There is a high chance that additional copies of the original professionally printed materials still exist in Dion's possession as he may have kept them for future JPN cart transformation.

Official - yes. Worth the money or collectible? Highly debatable, but due to Dion's habit of consistent lying, difficult to ascertain unless you purchase one right upon release and can be sure it was from the very first batch and not a subsequent JPN transformation. I know my former copy was one of the first three or four sold and can thus be fairly sure to be an authentic first run print.

Sincerely,

Mikhail

But the real question is: Would you pay $2000 for a freaked cart? Even if it is "official"? :kekeke:

Official SNK - NO. Official NGF - YES.

This is what needs to be clarified, and you stated the exact reasons why in your own post:

"They subsequently modified the artwork files to incorporate their logo and printed them in the US."

...and...

..."where the game was printed (US and not Japan) and about the original versions of the artwork files (did not include the NGF information)."

That makes it an official "NGF release" of the "KOF 2K" cart in the English language format.

I looked around and found that SNK supposedly let NGF make 100 english AES cart since they did aquire some of the companies assets like the original English printing plates and extras when SNK went bankrupt. Even if it wasn't a game released by SNK, Avertec has gotten away with it when they rereleased the US ports so why shouldn't NGF. Anyway, its up to the collector to think if its a great rare addition to their own AES collection or not, and if they're willing to pay $2000 for it they should go for it. Lets just wait and see who bids on it.

To the dumbfuck who started this thread: this really didn't need to be in two separate forums.

Merge, please.

The US-Release of KOF2000 is not in the master list and the price guide, but there is a picture of it in the US Cart-Pics section........:eek_2:

It is worth, in my estimation $200-$300.

Personally, I would never buy it because they are tainted.

Reasoning:
  • NGF got permission to release them, it was their only official deal with SNK --but...
  • NGF messed it up by putting their URL on "new" inserts, SNK was furious and stopped dealing with them
  • NGF lost any and all future official SNK English Neo Geo releases to Shawn and the Neo Store
  • These are just historical footnotes that are not of any serious financial value

Don't let anyone sell something like this to you for anything more than the production cost of a Neo Geo game ($250-$300). It really is just a glorified fan-altered game that could have been valuable had NGF not messed it up themselves.

[EDIT: added a little more]

True words here.

My personal quote would be even lower on that:it is a legit jap home cart ruined by NGF,so it holds a value only to actually play the game(gamer's value).

NO. JUST BECAUSE SOME JACKOFF ON EBAY SLAPS A 2,000 DOLLAR TAG ON KOF 2000, DOESN'T MEAN IT'S WORTH THAT. CAPITAL LETTERS. (Other KoFs are better anyway in my opinion. 98 / 2002 to name a couple)

HEH HEH HEH... That auction is damn near 5 times more than what you sold me yours for. BTW... Did you get my PM about that item you still have in your possession? I still want to buy it if it's available.

On ebay it's your right to sell stuff for whatever price you want, as long as it isn't stolen. That doesn't mean anyone will buy it.

Actually, there is much mis-information in this thread. Much of which has been propagated by the "haters" that either could not afford the game on release - or hate the fact it is more rare than Euro Kizuna.

Major mis-facts in this thread.

SNK was furious with us for "altering" artwork. This is untrue, as we demanded the inclusion of the backbox as terms for purchasing the game.

SNK was mad at us for refusing to purchase additional JPN KOF2000 stock about 2 months after release. The fact is the game was not selling well in JPN form, and I doubt if we had more than 100 US versions we would have been as lucky to sell them. The initial $500 cost was just low enough to entice the lucky 100, and allow us to make very small profit. The fact is, we really did the deal because we are both BigTime US collectors and wanted the game for our own collection. All the money was made on the liquidation. SNK wanted us to buy 500 JPN KOF2k's for like $180 each and we told them no - as they would never sell. Evidently, they were unhappy about having a customer that would not get soaked on a bad deal. Luckily for them, and the US collectors at large, they found the right person to take on such deals.

The cart is probably the most "official" cart to ever exist, as it was certified in Federal court as legit and official.

We have never produced additional carts, and have no ability to do so. We have the original printing plates for this game, as well as many others shown on the NGF website. Rest assured, there are many fakers out there, but if the game has the NGF stamp and stickers, it is legit.

Take it for what it is, no more no less. The game does command a huge sum, even in the declining neo geo market. It will always be one of the marquee carts for US collectors - the LAST TRUE SNK made game.

Check the old threads for more information - there are plenty.

Dion's way more fun than you are.

I don't even think I'd pay 2 grand for a mvs Ironclad let alone a AES KOF2k cart. If you want to play KOF2K on your AES so bad, just get a phantom.
