I regret to say that because of many people abusing the Universe Bios terms of use I have been given no choice but to stop offering a free version of the current version because I simply can not keep on top of reporting ebay auctions all the time for example. This will take effect from now. Basically the free version will be one release in arrears so to speak. This means that when v2.3 is released v2.2 will be the free version still. Only when v2.4 is released will v2.3 be made free.

Its people like the ones behind this auction ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8267231209 ) that have forced me to do this.

I feel quite sad to have to do this but there is no other way to stop people from trying to sell the latest version for their own profit. I will try and make releases more frequent though to compensate.

Regards, Raz

I don't think anyone can honestly blame you for your decision. In fact I think you'll have a lot of people back you up on this. If only Ebay actually gave a damn.

I think that's a completely reasonable thing to do and it sure beats the hell out of some other things you could do like canning the project entirely. I hope this helps deter people like that eBay seller.

A charge for all this work is only fair!

Put it in big red letters on the home page that "Because of you bastards selling this on eBay, the UniBIOS updates will no longer be free." That should let people know it's their fault much better than a little thing on the download page.

And damnit, why didn't I download 2.2 when I had the chance. :crying:

This seems like a perfectly reasonable move Raz, for all you do for the NEO community we could hardly begrudge you to take care of your own interests as well

I agree!

I'm sorry to hear about the abuse Raz. You make a great product and deserve the credit and pay.

Man, that's horrible. Do what you gotta do. I think everyone in the Neo community here supports any necessary steps you take and appreciates the work you do.

Pretty much the bastards like the links shown and the rom kiddies will be most annoyed. Good for you RAZ. I bought my unibios from you (2.0) and so should anyone else needing the chip.

I'm getting the 2.2 socketed into my AES as we speak and I will be glad to purchase new updates from you.

Besides, I'm sure you won't sell them at something like 1000$ :)

I think it is a good decision to can the free one to protect your interests. I just bought a 2.2 chip about 2 weeks ago and absolutely love it. It is definately worth supporting.

I have already emailed him (and ebay). He speaks english. Feel free to report that auction to ebay though (http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/mod-chips.html, use the report link on the bottom of this page and give the auction number).

Update, I think he has ended that auction now anyways.

It's really great that you are doing this as I often see people selling your work on eBay, but I'm concerned about the efficacy of this. Unless you tend to upgrade the UniBios with very large updates, I have a feeling that those who sell your work won't mind selling a version that is only a little older than the most recent version (And I think the buyers wouldn't mind either; how many people would be antsy between version 2.2 and version 2.1?). Maybe consider widening the gap between the version you sell and the version that you offer for download? Though, of course, there are others who use the downloadable version for good and they shouldn't be punished. So I'm not entirely sure (I guess it comes down to how many people use the free version for personal use or for selling for making a profit).

Whatever you do, all that matters is that you are doing something as I want to make sure that you are still offering the UniBios when I get my Neo :glee:

I wonder

if Razoola would stop offering 'free' upgrades (outside the cost of shipping for the chip)?

At least you can upgrade teh bootlegs for a decent cost and still have money to go towards Razoola.

Only if he lists the prices for shipping and pheonixing CPS2 boards, then I would do mucho 'contributions' to him ;)

Hey Razoola,

Would you be willing so send the code for the new versions to people like me who have bought UniBios chips from you and have the tools to update them themselves?

(I have 2.2 already, but I'm wondering for the future...)

If you ask me you should've restricted 2.1 also, that was a huge update. Anyways, kudos to you on implementing controls on your great work for this community. Any word on when 2.3 is coming out? I'd certainly like to buy one and continue to support your efforts.

Isn't it close to a final version anyway?

How much more needs to be done? The last game for the platform was added along time ago.

Ummm. OK.

Anywho, Raz I agree with you, I would actually keep anything 1.x free only, nothing in the current series though like 2.0-2.1

You deserve to get paid for what you have done. You can also have it where if we want to burn it ourselves we need a login and password or something along those lines to weed out the vultures.

Yes of course if you already own a original unibios.
