strange question?: how many kit label styles are there for certain games?

got Crossed Swords and 8man kits (and some others) and I noticed that the label on the boxes differed from the one's in the Cart Pics section and from some in the collections section. I think these are early - or euro or something? I say early specifically because the Crossed Swords didn't come with the art - just mini marquee (that's what it's called right?) and bios setting sheet. NOS and I have a bunch of each, and they'r all the same way. plus the fact the label is different on the box.

now I'm a complete newbie as is evident from my banter - but what's the dealio? there's nothing online that I have found talking about runs and shit. and I'm certain I've seen these pictured a few times online so they're just as ordinary as the ones that are pictured, but I would like to know for the sake of knowing.

sorry. I'm being a complete nerd. I really want to play these bitches.

I thought when they have stickers like that...they are Japanese kits. Am I wrong? :conf:

mmmh.. the rest of the kit is in english though. the carts have labels which read in english for instance.

Yup, same as Big Tournament Golf. It's written in English despite being for the Japanese market. You can kinda tell with 8man too as there is small Jap text on the label. You wouldn't find that on an English kit.

cool, thanks. what threw me off is that the label on the cart is in english as is the dip sheet and the mini marquee etc. is this the case for big tornament golf too or is it just the label on the box that's this way?
they're worth about the same as the US equivalent?

No probs man. Not sure for BTG as I've only ever had an English kit. I'd imagibne they'd be worth only slightly more than an English version, just because they are slightly less common. There are a few other carts, which only have English labels too.

You know that Shekana has hit the absolute bottom btw?

I've been out of the loop for a while to tell you the truth - last time I bought from them was around 1996 and it was some saturn games. shame though. the older import shops in the UK always gave me a warm fuzzy feeling.
once had gone to Stoke on Trent and remember buying some megadrive games (before I got the SFC) at an import shop stacked with the goods. in fact London was the least best place to get stuff back in the day.

Yup ACE in Carnaby St, which was opened by Ex-Shekana employee Nick has gone bust too. Well it hasn't been there for ages, but I doubt they'd relocate from such a prime spot. It's sad, most of those stores you prolly thought of whilst writing that last post have gone.

those places and the games they used to sell are very much related in my/our minds. oh well, atleast we where there to witness it.

Well mine doesn't have any Japanese whatsoever. Just the 'Made in Japan'
standard that all carts have.

so what's your assessment? do you think it could be for Asian market? maybe they just didn't give a crap about having a set standard?
the Crossed Swords have a small silver sticker on them with what is most probably serial numbers. in fact one of my Baseball stars has a number which is 00009X or something like that on the silver sticker. maybe these where just early production runs and the kits where still being standardised?

I'll just conclude this I think, by answering my own question (as far as I see it) -

these where made for US market and where put out this way early on before a proper kit could be made. I have a number of kits which are this way - all being of the same 2 or 3 games, and from the same lot there are a number of kits which are fully US (Baseball Stars Proffessional- very early: serial numbers as low as 0009X and others in the 001XX/002XX region - as I say I have a bunch of these too). all these games came from the same whereabouts - same distribution, all NOS. they where bought up soon after these games where made for foreign markets.

therefore, just like Sengoku 3 kits had different runs - the first (according to some) coming with serial numbers and the second without (such as mine and those sold via the neo store), we are looking at different runs, or minimumly the first kit configurations, after which regional standardisation became operational. this is all speculation ofcourse but in my mind, definetly the most likey explenation for these and xtoo_short20x's too. I'm sure people have ran into similar situations.
