i know that lik-sang has them, but they're a bit pricy, imo.
is there a way to make them from scratch?

I'm actually making one myself. It uses a cheapo ps1 digital pad.

You need to trace each of the contact pads (for each button) to a spot where to can solder to, then scrape away the protective material until you expose copper. You'll need also need a wire from the common ground each button uses.

I'm not sure about the newest offical sony ps2 dual shocks, but the first version that shipped with my launch ps2 used a flexible pcb made out of plastic. There was no I could solder to that... This is why I found a cheap 3rd party ps1 pad. Ps1 pads should work on almost any game except for a select few that might need input from the analog sticks (my KOF 2k0, 2k1 worked fine).

I'm also working on a xbox to neo and dreamcast to neo adaptors. Every solder point on the old style xbox controller was a total bitch. On the dc pad only the solder points to the chips that read the L & R buttons was a pain.

Once you have the desired wires soldered to the board, it's just a matter of following the neo pinout locations on a db-15.

Neo db-15 pinout

oh ... i guess, i should have given a bit more info. sorry.

what i want is a decoder. the psx pad's signals are encoded and i would need to decode them, if i wanted to use psx controllers on a ngh or supergun.

i also have a spare set of psx joyports that i would like to use for something.

Oh, sorry I read it wrong. If you don't figure it out, you can always hack up a pad to output a neo pinout while still being functional.

i could hack a psx pad ... yes, but that's not what i'd want to do.

What I did, was buy one of these and hacked it up. If you are trying to de-compress from PSX to NEO/Standard JAMMA you will have to either have to make your own board or buy one of thoes converters and hack it. On the bright side, once you have one of thoes their not hard to rip and then re-produce. I've got the board schematics laid out and the decoder ripped, If I can find some webspace I might UL them.

The PSX controller protocol is relatively well documented, I have heard of at least one open-source driver for the controllers. That said, you're going to need some logic to decode the signal into discrete signal lines. I'd plan on a PIC which means you need the proper equipment to program it (EPROM/PIC programmer).

This project will get more expensive that just buying a pair of converters, unless you plan on making these as a business venture. A Willem (cheapest good programmer) is going to run you +$40, plus you'll need to spend more on the proper adapters. Add in PICs and other ancillary parts that while cheap, do add up, and you're looking at $75-$80 to one-off a pair of these adapters.

yeah, but that just sends the signal to a PC. I want ps2 to neo! (and other things, as well)
