Earlier today I heard Ignition Entertainment went into liquidation. The UK publishers of KOF Maximum Impact,KOF 2000/2001 and Metal Slug 3 are no longer in operation. Where this leaves the release of Samurai Showdown V,KOF2002/2003 and Archer McCleans Mercury for Sony PSP remains to be seen.

If that is true, it's indeed a sad day for European port fans... :(

Damn, and I thought they'd be quite well off, given their ambitious release plans.

While I applaud their ideals (blood and bounce), their execution sucked. Games released several months late for xbox. They just didnt have the development bandwidth. Still sad to see them go though.

If theres any selling off of stuff, I will have to get my ass over there. Banbury is not far from me.

It is a very sad day in the world of neo geo. However Mr McClean will rise from the ashes and us Euro SNK fans are used to the lack of attention.
Ignition worked hard for that license to beat Capcom to it(no small task beating the evil giants) and will be sorely missed. :crying:

Oh man....

They had such a hot website too for the SNK releases..

So was it poor sales?

Man, I think if they should have stayed in operation until the KOF 2002/2003 pack was released, which would surely be more sales than anything else they released so far.

...Salute!

Can't reveal my sources I'm afraid. Lets just say I live local to them and this is 100% correct.

When the money ppl decide they wanna cash up, that's what they do. Regardless of what the staff, fans and the talent think. They just go collect what they can, like looters in a riot and destroy all the hard work.

Sounds fishy to me. What exactly is this "reliable source"?

Seems to me Ignition Entertainment's got quite a success streak going with em.

Damn it. I was literally counting the days when KoF02 would be released for the PS2. It got delayed over and over again, but now it makes sense. They were having financial issues after all (that's probably why they wanted to release KoF02 and KoF03 separately). =| At least I got the chance to play KoF:MI before they went bankrupt.

Maybe I could import KoF02/03, but I am hestitating if I should mod my PS2 or not, I heard it is quite risky and I can't afford another PS2 if it will stop functioning. =/ I hope some other company will pick up these games, because I would surely spend my money on those games they were planning to release.

Atari published Ignitions own titel from Awesome studios... :(

Atari to distribute ‘Archer MacLean’s Mercury’ for Sony PSP™

Highly-addictive puzzler makes its way into European homes for the launch of Sony’s cool new handheld PSP™, bringing together Ignition Entertainment and Atari for launch in September 2005

LONDON, UK – 4th July 2005 – Atari today announced that it will distribute the forthcoming addictive puzzler ‘Archer MacLean’s Mercury’ in key territories UK, France and Germany.

Published by Ignition Entertainment and developed by Awesome Studios for Sony PSP™, Mercury has been specifically designed for the new gaming PlayStation Portable, which launches across Europe in September 2005. Mercury will have new and existing gamers hooked on the beautiful visuals and highly addictive game play which has already taken America by storm, and looks set to do the same when released in Japan next month.

Created by Archer MacLean, the game puts you in control of ultra realistic liquid mercury which you have to steer through 72 levels spread over six challenging worlds. Using your brain and balance, control the Mercury around various obstacles and puzzling scenarios as well as keeping everything intact. Blob control is important; keeping your liquid mercury together and not spilling is the key to completing your goal as well as identifying the colours you need to move through certain areas. Once you’ve achieved your goal you’ll face the end of level boss who won’t be a walk in the park. Can you handle the challenge?

“We are extremely pleased to add Mercury to our already fantastic release schedule in the run-up to Christmas”, says Richard Orr, Marketing Director, Atari UK. “Having such a strong title at launch for the PSP is a tremendous bonus and we look forward to working with Ignition Entertainment to this make this great success. Mercury is such an addictive game, I am sure will capture the imagination of all PSP owners and become this year’s must-have game.”

“Atari’s distribution network and retail muscle will enable us to get Mercury to as many PSP owners as possible,” says Phu Tien, International Sales Manager, Ignition Entertainment. “We’re delighted they have recognised the potential this amazing title has, and can’t wait to partner with Atari in order to make Mercury one of the most sought-after titles at launch.”

Game features:

- Six fantastic game worlds with 72 levels of fantastic liquid mayhem!
- Over 30 interactive objects, enemies and level solving devices, including Teleporter, Spinners, bridges and flux transmitters
- Combo, Boss and lots of secret levels to unlock
- Unlock able levels per world for hi-scorers and a bonus 7th world to discover!
- Training camp for beginners for to practice blob control and colour manipulation
- Ultra realistic liquid mercury effects never before seen in a game
- Addictive pick up and play gameplay
- WiFi mode for you and a friend to hook up and compete based on all the levels in the single player

Are you ready to be hooked on this year’s most addictive game?

Archer Maclean’s Mercury is scheduled for European launch Sony’s PSP in September 2005. For more information go to www.ignitionent.com and for assets, releases and videos go to www.atari-press.com

Maybe Atari could buy out Ignition and continue the work.

Man that sucks.
I guess Animaniacs - Great Edgar Hunt, (which was their last UK release), was too little, too late.
I could pretty much see it coming though. None of their SNK stuff ever made it into the top 20, and it was forever getting delayed....

I guess that leaves the SNK licences up for grabs. Mabye someone like Midas, or Playit, or 505Gamestreet will pick them up.

Good. Hope a publisher with a decent bloody attitude to getting games out on time pick up the SNK license instead.
