So people here obviously like to try and buy things from Japan once in a while and undoubtedly will eventually happen upon Yahoo Japan, the eBay (without the bad conotations the eBay name implies) of Japan. I guess it's the "big yard sale" of Japan. Maybe if there is enough interest we can get this stickied?

What I want to do in this thread, with the assistance of the members who know Japanese, is provide search links to people who request them. As many know, generally searching in English will net you limited results unless the series has an English name, and even then sometimes a kana search nets you wildly different results.

To kick start the thread, whcih hopefully can become people's one stop search for Yahoo Japan search assistance, I'm providing links to the deputy services that specialize in YJA.

First is Shopping Mall Japan I've personally used these guys for at least 20 transactions and it's been a great experience so far. They bulk ship items from Japan to the US to save customers money on shipping, which is damn nice. Adult items require manual bids, however. Fees are reasonable and probably one of the cheapest deputy services around. Highly recommended as they allow automated bidding and credit card payments.

Next up is M-World/Masato. They also specialize in YJA with the caveat that you must pay up front. The biggest draw to Masato is the fact that they allow you to make purchases not only from YJA, but from other Japanese websites, a big plus when trying to obtain an OST that only sells direct from the Japanese website to Japanese customers, or you want that Sega Direct exclusive. Also highly recommended, though shipping can sometimes be a beast.

Third is Rinkya. Yeah, they also do automated bidding like SMJ, though their custom exchange rate is the current rate -5, and SMJ is current rate -4. They also charge a MINIMUM of $10 for internal Japanese shipping, even if the item has free shipping attached. Their fees also happen to be the highest. The plus is they can accomodate English searching, though everyone will tell you their English searching can leave a lot to be desired and direct searching on the Yahoo Japan site is the best way to go. I've also used them, and the service isn't bad, though it's expensive, the most expensive of the services I know of.

Last, and definitely least, is Celga. Crappy customer service, forgetful Japanese staff and odd billing (make sure your spam filters are turned off!). Their fees are reasonable and the ship direct from Japan. In terms of service, the worst company of the 4 I know. They also require emailing of auctions and payment up front, so last minute auction finds are definitely out with these guys. Hell, even auctions 2 days before the end date may be missed due to the imcompetance of these folks. Definitely NOT recommended, but put up for completeness.

To start off the auction assistance, here are a few searches people here may be interested in:

Mushihime-sama
SNK (pruned out the watches, though looks like there are still some non-SNK we know and love auctions listed)
Fatal Fury
King of Fighters (English search)
King of Fighters Kana search
Street Fighter Kana search
Sakura Taisen/Wars (huge amount of items, you've been warned)

If you are looking for search assistance on anything, be it a game series, Anime series, porn star goods, OST search or whatever, post away! And anyone that can assist with the search, help away! ;)

I guess I can put up a couple of things I know from personal experience with YJA.

First, sniping doesn't always work. On a lot of the auctions I've been party to, if you put a bid in within the last 10 minutes of the auction close and you become the high bidder (even if you wait for 1 second to end), the auction timer is bumped back up to 10 minutes. This is a great feature IMO as it gives the person who was the high bidder a chance to bid again if they want. Of course, this can also drive up the cost of auctions, so buyers beware. And a last minute auction war through any of the non automated services (Masato or Celga) generally has you on the losing end. I HAVE won auctions through Masato in price wars, but only because I was sitting on the item and they were trying to bid last minute. 7 or 8 emails later the other bidder finally gave up and I won the auction.

Second, sometimes an auction has an automatic restart. So if the item doesn't receive a bid, sometimes it rolls back over and gets relisted. Great if you forget to bid on something.

Third is that there is a buy it now style feature. If you see an auction like this one and it has the yellow backing on a price, that is the buy it now price. If you bid this price, you win instantly just like eBay. One thing to note, however, is that you can sometimes still get these items cheaper if you bid regularly, but just like with eBay if someone comes in and bids the BIN price, you are out of the running.

Fourth and final is translation assistance. The BEST translation assistant available on the web (can't beat somoene who knows Japanese ;)) is Nifty Global Gate. This will translate auctions without issue, which isn't the case with the other tried and true, Babelfish. What you do is copy and paste an auction you want to translate into the spot that says "url:". Once you've done that, BE SURE to use the pull down menu and change the default option (which is English to Japanese) to the bottom option, which is Japanese to English. This will give you results that look like this.

Of course, post any questions you may have along with search requests.

Thanks beelzebubble for offering to help! ;) I knew you would, but even still, thanks!

great thread, but the easiest way to get a hookup on yahoo japan is to suckup to a japanese guy selling shit on ebay, maybe buy one of his items, then ask him about yahoo, and get him to bid for you for a small fee. has worked for me for years.

Well, that's cool, but you may still need to search for items, in which case you can just post here and we'll hook you up with the search you need. ;)

Tron 2.0 and Neco_Coneco, you're welcome, that's what the thread is here for. ;-)

Just remember Neco_Coneco, depending on what service you use you may not have full control of when your bid gets put in. I highly recommend one of the automated services if you want it really bad, and bid high.

And unfortunately it looks like that may be the only GB AL game running at the moment, and it doesn't have the instant buy option.

Good luck!

smj is not taking new customers and I cant figure out what is going on with the second link :crying: If anyone is willing who had a SMJ account I will pay them 10 dollars for them to use their account and bid on this for me. Of course I would paypal them the full amount of the item before hand to. I really want this game and will bid $70+ on it

or one of our Japanese members I will pay them the money for the item the 10 bucks the shipping cost to their house then the shipping to me.

I'd bid for you with my SMJ account... the problem is that I'm at my bidding limit at the moment and can only put in a 2000 Yen (basically $20) bid. I bought a Kaleido Star box set and a Divergence EVE: Misaki Chronicles box set and I'm toast.

If you want to use Masato, click here. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the M-World Service link above the address, or just shoot an email to m-world-service@sales.ffn.ne.jp. Give them the item number and the total (in Yen) you are willing to pay and they'll get back to you with a total to PayPal them. When you pay them up front, be sure to use PayPal and pay in Yen. You get the most up to date exchange rate and don't pay SMJ or Rinkya's custom fee. You do have to pay the PayPal fees though. If the auction ends cheap, they'll just use the over pay for shipping to you and refund any extra or keep it as a deposit on future items.

You can also use Rinkya, just realize you pay $10 internal Japan shipping at the minimum and it's the most expensive service. I've used them twice and they work well, you just pay for it.

Service fee on Masato's site for a 7000 Yen item would be 1500 Yen, so you're looking at 8500 Yen prior to shipping to the US. They use EMS when they ship and only ship twice a month (beginning and end). But the service from start to finish is totally kick ass.

I'd say go with Rinkya if you want to sit on it and keep bidding up if need be. As I said before, price wars through Masato or Celga may be impossible to win. Rinkya will allow automatic bids, which is nice.

If you still can't figure out a solution and it's getting close to the auction's end date, let me know. I SHOULD be invoiced for the Kaleido Star box today or tomorrow, in which case it should clear me to spend $600+ on stuff again and I'll help you if I can.

Ah my good man, hopefully you can help me. I have a JPN account but I need the opp to use it.

There are gamest vids and stuff for all manner of games. I think I have every neo geo video made, all SF vids BUT I want to buy vids for other games.

I hope you know what I mean, where basically experts play games and show you how its done or they are tutor style vids

So you're looking for say, gameplay DVDs or VHS tapes off Yahoo Japan? There are ways to sort the auctions into the categories they belong to, but we'd have to know what series you are looking for.

Or are you talking about something else and I'm not following?

No you are right but I want any and EVERY vid and DVD, I take it its not like typing the JPN equal of gamest vids ebay style.
I mean if I go to rinkya and I type gamest, then the vids link show

I know they miss out on a lot of these vids AND lastly I am looking for EVERY neo geo CD sound track ( not AES soundtrack ) or as they call it Arrage ( I think ).

I have about 6 or 7 but I want them all

I have a crazy high limit right now with SMJ, so if you need I could bid on it for you. They are going on vacation from July 6-12 or somewhere in there though so it could take some time (extra week or so) to get your game. Anyways shoot me a PM if you wish.

When it comes to ASTs, you'll need to be a bit more specific. I can plug in SNK and get some CDs but what's coming up isn't ASTs. I need to know the series you are looking for the ASTs for before I can help you locate them. Maybe beez can help you on that one. SNK CD search gives you these results.

Also, it's not a matter of plugging in Gamest and getting all the videos. Doing a Game Video search nets you these results. Doing a Gamest Video search nets less results. I'm sure if you listed series you know there are Gamest video/DVDs for someone could help you out. I'm not to familiar with the Gamest videos, so I'm not entirely sure what would be best to look up. Again, maybe beez can help on this one?
