Honestly, should I stop de-railing price gouging threads in the selling forums?

Should I keep my .02 out of peoples selling threads?

I'm trying to keep price gougers away from these boards for all of us.

I don't feel its my duty, but I'd hate to see someone pay for something that I know can be had cheaper... basically I'm looking out for you, the member.

2 PSP 1.0's went up for sale at double the price they are worth... I shit on both of the threads and told the sellers that I think its wrong to list something like that here, trying to make more money than they should off of you.

Most of us have been around since the start, and we tend to look out for each other and trust each other more than other people.

I made a thread about this before, basically stating that as a community we should list our wares here at reasonable prices, you know make your money back plus some.. not rape people like Kenny Boy and datalogik do...

At least Kenny keeps his shit on ebay which is respectable, so if you want it, you have to bid on it.

I have NEVER once sold ANYTHING above retail on these boards, and I'm not trying to glorify myself, but just showing I'm not a hypocrite.

Wes, Kiselgof, Fats, Butta, rot, kern ect all sell at "friendly" prices...

I hope you see the point I'm trying to make...

Basically, would you rip your friend off?

Vote please...

keep it up TONK... although... I did get a pretty good deal from datalogic though... a soccer brawl mini marquee for free... shipped!... so he's not too bad imo.

edit: but... you do realise that most of the sellers will tell you to mind your own business, and the buyers will tell you to keep informing people.

Leave people be.

Much like ebay, if people are uninformed enough, and are prepared to pay stupid prices....more power to the seller who can get away with it.

Otherwise, people can always ask others about traders & deals........

Voted 2nd option basically.

I belive your 100% right tonk.

Especially about those PSPS, i'm reading rumours that a Spanish or South American Team, I'm not sure... Has cracked PSP Firmware 1.5. They say they'll release it on the 15th, but no one has actually tried/confirmed it yet.

Here's there website: (Seems to be down because of High Traffic)

I try not to know my buyer's life or wealth because it would be a problem for me to sell something someone gathered money during months for. I am more or less friendly in my trades depending on the gentleness of my buyer/seller.

Tonk, keep it going man, it's really important that someone is there to prevent the lowlifes from bying something they would rue.

Personally I have had the experience of someone shitting on my thread (Datalogik) that basically told people where they could get my item cheaper. I wasn't trying to "rape" anyone. He did succeed in preventing me from selling my item and (at the time) my asking price was well within market price.

I didn't think that was very cool.

It's rare that I even put anything up for sale so someone doing that to me (and the person it was) really pissed me off.

Now don't get me wrong...

Say you list a random Xbox game that retails for $39.99 @ $30.00 shipped...

But in reality, the retail price just went down to $19.99... I rarely point that out.

So basically what datalogik did to you was wrong and hypocritical.

I see nothing wrong with looking out for other members. We try to inform each other of scammers going around and it's not a bad idea to also inform everyone on what is a good deal and whats a bad deal. It will make the whole community better.

I personally don't care. Well, the only one I kinda care about is Kennyboy,
specially when he starts posting misleading auctions etc..

Now Datalogik, I don't have anything against, as I don't follow any
of the bs that goes around in the selling forums, unless it's something
that interests me.
I never had a problem with the guy, sold
me a couple of kits at good prices, and were on my door the next day.

It's kinda funny that I have never really had one bad transaction with
anyone...

As long as they are not breaking rules here...

They can do whatever the hell they want... it's the buyers who should be wise.

I think it is a good idea to moniter this kind of jazz (overpricing and what not). But, i also feel that this forum has it's own self-defence, as in most of the members are market savvy and won't pay extortionary prices for items that can be had cheaper elsewhere. I like the community feel this forum has, especially the way most members try to sell at a price that covers what their paid for said item. I feel what Tonk is doing is just an extension of that community vibe.

Good looking out Tonk!

voted No - my friend

its upto sellers to ask what they want and if they get it i guess the market or an idiot made it that price

look at the spikeout you sold or tried to sell, you started at $0.01 and it ended up at $91 ($114 posted) - now thats not the RRP its just idiots wanting a game that was UBER TEH RARE - but its not and now its about $20 to buy 2nd hand

if they cant sell it at the price they want they will still be holding onto it until they lower the price

I think that tonk's point is that people that wish to do that type of sales should directly use ebay, and not the selling forums here. I see the selling forums as an adition to this website to help people find stuff related to our common hobby, but it should not be used to try to "unfairly" get money. Of course, the same could be aplied to anybody selling most Neo Geo stuff but oh well... :loco:

I don't see the problem here, Jon was merely pointing out that the item you were selling could be bought cheaper elsewhere. He was informing you that your price was maybe too high, and therefore trying to help you out. I don't believe that if it was anyone else you'd have moaned so much, especially in light of the "(and the person it was)" part of your post.

The sale forums are available for anyone to use, people should be free to do whatever they want, beit overpricing goods or jumping in on somebody else's thread to inform them that prices are too high or whatever. Things are getting very silly around here.
Perhaps clear rules should be laid out as it seems that they are made up as we go along. Until rules are laid down then people can and will do whatever they like in the market threads. Good luck to anyone who can find someone else sucker enough to lay out for overpriced goods. After all the buyer could just ask around if the prices are decent or not, that is still the idea of a community no?

Its bullshit, all of it and you know it. Or maybe dr4m4 is a better way to describe it? "he said this" "he's selling this for this amount when it's only suposed to be this much" Keep your nose out of other peoples' business I say.

Also these kind of topics have gotta stop. Is it because we've run out of Neo stuff to talk about, so now we just talk shit all day?

Amano

i could ask $1000 for my crappy art of fighting on AES - suppose i'm being unfair, yeah i guess so

will it sell - will it feck

i've agreed with Tonk on 1 point that only an idiot would pay that price and if somebody did they're an idiot

but what happens if that seller bought his PSP at the launch in Japan - he may have in fact spent much more on it because all the importers were price gouging

but alot of sellers get their prices from various price guides and the price guide is mostly run on private and EBAY sales

so if 10 PSP's sold on ebay for 450usd - why not try and sell one privately for that amount

Tonk is a decent guy - but his strengths should be put to running the scammers out of dodge, price gougers are everywhere - its mostly human nature

everybody will try and get as much as they can back, if it wasnt the case a minty metal slug 1 could be bought for $199 - retail price

anyway that said who wants an AOF for $1000????? :buttrock: :buttrock:

I'm undecided. Part of me thinks that asking stupid prices [that HOPEFULLY people won't pay] will eventually make you give up on using these forums as a means to sell things....in turn, thinning the herd of idiots which I am all for. Or, they learn that people aren't stupid and come back down to Earth with the rest of us. I think the problem rests with the idiots willing to pay inflated prices, which fucks it up for everyone. So if someone is asking a Bajillion dollars for something and actually sells it to a member here...we should ban the idiot that paid it. :D

edit: I also agree scammers are a bigger issue.

Of course you should. I don't even know why you ask. I'm not knowledgable enough on game prices to give a fair opinion but I de-railed many threads on car related forums when people wanted to scam other members.

In terms of posting in the threads that are obvious price gouging, that may be fine, but only if obvious. I really don't care for posting that you can find something cheaper somewhere else, especially if you are selling the same item. That's bullshit. If you are truly looking out for the seller by posting such, that's not the way to do it. Contact the seller and tell them they may want to lower the price. I absolutely hate when someone comes into a thread and says "Wow, that's nice stuff, but I wouldn't pay more than $ZXSW for it." That ass doesn't help anyone in that case, just puts questions in everyone's minds as to is that really a good price?

So, I say only post such in obvious cases. Some are more obvious than others. And more importantly, regarding potential scams, I definitely think vigilance is a useful tool. Burden of proof is only on the seller if the buyer asks for it.
