Grabbing this album friday, samhain is bad ass, danzig is bad ass, will be good to finally own something from this satanic motherfucker.

Anyone else a fan of danzig's shit?

Samhain is cool.

I prefer the Misfits and Danzig more.

November Comming fire is a good album.

Are the Samahain albums getting re-released?

The november coming fire I'm gonna get is a remaster, I dont know about that though. They can only do so much with those recordings as is. I'd like to see danzig live.

Yeah, they all got rereleased a couple of years back on Danzig's label. There was a boxed set too with the three official full length Samhain LP's (Initium, November Coming Fire, Final Descent) + a famous bootleg.

I'm not sure if the versions of the songs on the "Unholy Passion" EP are the same versions as the ones on "Final Descent", and I can't remember if the EP was also included in the boxed set.

Samhain's pretty overrated in my opinion though. All of the albums have their moments, but there's a fair amount of weak points in each as well. "November Coming Fire" is probably the best of the three. "Human Pony Girl" is a cool riff. Dumb lyrics, but a cool riff.

Mother is a bad ass track tho on the danzig shit. I'll grab that along with november.

I don't know why i could never listen to Samhain, Danzig pretty much blew it for me after his first few albums.

Misfits, Glenn will never do better.

Didnt Danzig do some gay ass industrial type shit at some point? I remember seeing a really lame album cover with him on it a while back... didnt look like a thrasher anymore...so I stopped even trying to listen..that was like 5-7 years ago

Samhain's best album was Initium, although November was pretty good. The Unholy passion EP never really did anything for me and Final Decent never really felt like a Samhain album, it's more or less Danzig .5.

Myself, I'm a huge fan of Glenn's work and I have just about everything he's ever done. I spent most of last week listening to Danzig 3, 4, and Circle of Snakes (which is one of the best albums he's done in years). Most people give Danzig 5 a lot of shit but I like it because it's raw and unpredictable.

Say what you will about Glenn but he's done it all and he did it on his own terms.

what was the Black Sabbath cover he did latter on?

Mother is so antiquated.......

It never even got a studio video.

Some of his stuff after the third album was ok.... I don't mind the pain is a cool song (even if it does sound just like TV casualty)

I think the Samhain albums were too experimental- which isn't a bad thing- but I heard them AFTER I heard the first Danzig solo album (Which is like, the number 2 or 3 best metal album of the 80s)

Samhain is cool and fucked up and sorta Satanic- which I, of course, LOVE to death

I mean- overall- The original Misfits are classic poppy death punk. EVERYONE I know likes them. Girls especially. SAMHAIN is just sort of dark and trippy- but not really 'fun'. The 'Danzig' black album was raw, perfect, dark rock n roll. A real masterpiece of that genre. Almost genre defining.

Initium is the best Samhain record. I still have my original vinyl record from when I was a little kid! "This is the night to feast and dine this is the night to laugh at death"!!

If you look the Pedagogy of Danzig's music, then it is essential to understand the place that Samhain holds.

One does not go straight from "Green Hell" to "Am I Demon?"

Cool, I never got to check out samhain shit before, althoguh I've heard a couple of tracks. I'm more of a misfits fan though, I like Danzig's solo stuff, but IMHO it doesn't compare to Misfits. I saw him live about 2-3 weeks ago funnily enogh, which was pretty cool.

gotta love the stuff glenn has done in the past.. he should retire tho, i hate to say it but he's way over the hill.. last two records were shite, the last one so much i couldnt even bother going to the signing he held just 3blocks away from where i live.. thats saying alot cause im a pretty big fan otherwise, devilock, inked up and all.. :very_ang:

For those of you who dig Danzig but have never listened to Samhain I recommend the Samhain boxset. It has all the Samhain music plus a live video. Well worth the price.

Glenn has said in numerous interviews that he has enough unreleased material to make 2 or 3 albums so I hope those songs see the light of day sometime soon.

BTW, Black Aria 2 is done and ready for release.
