My friend has his GC chipped and downloads his games from the newsgroups, he msg'd me saying that there was a Pal version of Killer 7 posted on there. Obviously we thought it would be fake, because A: the japanese one is even out yet and B: a hell of alot of fakes get posted.

So i went down last night and he tell me its NOT fake and IT IS Pal.

It boots up with language selection (english, french or german) and then asks for 50/60.

DEFINATELY PAL!

Ok the game. Well this is NOTHING like i thought it was gonna be like, the setting, the graphical style we all know about, and i knew it was gonna be weird.

But FUCK ME its weird as hell! weirder than i could have even imagined, but its not just the graphics, the characters or even the voices ( scary as fuck ) its the controls.

Heres the setup:

A Button makes you Run - this is the only button that makes you move.

B Button makes you turn around, you can only run backwards or forwards thats it.

R Button puts you into first person this is where all combat takes place, A button is then used to Fire.

L Button - Scans when in FPS mode to find Enemies.

Analogue Stick - ONLY used for looking around in FPS and selecting which way to go.

C - Stick - Reload.

X Button - Map

Y Button - Special Shot

So i was expecting typical 3rd person controls, with a nice camera, something like Resi Evil 4. I got a game with minimum controls and something that kinda played like a old FMV 3DO game.....

Holding down the A button to move is just so weird, you can't move anywhere else your completely on rails, the camera swings from above your chracter to below looking up, and the only way you know enemies are there is becaus eyou hear them laughing. When you hear them laugh you switch straight into FPS mode and have to scan quick to make them appear...

I'm still interested in it and i will pick it up, but from a game i was VERY excited about its gone to game i am totally confused about.

Did you all know it played like this?

Woah, sounds complicated.

There was a flyer for the game in my copy of RE4 PAL, and I couldn't say it immediately caught my attention, but from what I've read in your post, the game sounds interesting. Guess I will give it a try, and be it just to see how it's really like.

I have been playing this game for a couple of days already.

The design overall is great, the music, everything is really good from an aesthetical point of view.

Gameplay is weird, the whole pressing A to run on rails is strange, and it's terribly easy to get lost. The first person shooting part is good, pretty simple, but fun.

I tend to feel like I want to play this game, but at the same time, I get discouraged by the fact that I know I will get lost at some point - also, there are many "puzzles" that you have to learn how to solve all by your own. For example, you get to a door, and you see it's locked. Obviously, I assumed I needed a key - but no, for some reason, there is a Personality that opens locked doors. How am I supposed to know this? Who knows.

Something I really disliked is the incredible amount of loading moments, every time you enter a room or arean, the game loads... after a while this becomes too repetitive and irritating, especially if you consider that getting lost is common.

I see Killer7 as a beautiful, great and innovative game, but with minor flaws that make it somewhat irritating at times.

Everyone should be playing this game now, this game cannot be described with words.

It's too good, but I feel like it will be a love or hate thing, just like with Rez.

And, yes, I am playing the final release.

Oh, and the European release date is 7/15

Is this game a Cube exclusive?

No, it has been announced on PlayStation2 as well.

Thanks, I can't play warez Cube games, but I can on the PS2 although it doesn't work very well now :crying: . I'd rather have a xbox version :emb:
If the game is good enough I might just buy the Cube version, but first I have to try it, specially if it's so weird.

I'm buying this game as soon as possible. It's taken Capcom long enough, but I think they end result will be worth it.

Played the PS2 version at E3, and the controls, while bizarre, were a breeze to deal with. I can see how the Gamecube controller would be a goddamn nightmare though. The PS2 controller layout just lends itself toward the gameplay better. Triangle is forward, X is turn around, R1 goes into fire/aim mode, Square Fires, L1 scans while in fire/aim mode. D-pad chooses junctions. No problems.

I did however get totally lost in the demo after about 15 minutes of play, and the Capcom rep had no idea on how to beat it, so I just stopped playing and let someone else go.

Maybe I am understanding it wrong, but it seems everyone is getting lost...
I thought you could only go back and forth?

Many rooms and many different paths. There is a map, but it does not point out your location.

How do you go down a different path? Are you prompted onscreen to "go left" or "go right" or something like that?

The location comes up in like a Comic cut away, for example : Hallway N or Even peoples names. You just push the stick towards it and press A then you carry on.

Its funny to think that Capcom's 'minor' games (like Haunting Ground, Under the Skin and Gregory Horror Show) all find their way to Europe slightly before America, but their 'big' games (like DMC, Resi 4 and Onimusha) all take a while to see their PAL releases.

*Shrugs Shoulders* Oh well.

Still, really looking forward to Kiler 7. I've been totally digging Capcom's output lately - seems like they've really come into their own this generation. Controls do sound a little wierd, (though I kinda had a feeling it would play that way judging by some gameplay vids and ealry write-ups) but I doubt I'll have any trouble adjusting to them.

I just hope the GC version is released on the same day (or before) the PS2 one. I'd much prefer to play it on GC, but I'm the kinda person who just cant wait......

This is actually a marketting trend.

Several companies like Capcom and Konami see the European market as more "open-minded" regarding new concepts and franchises, and that is why many of their really new games get released over there first.

And regarding release dates, they are the same for PlayStation2 and GameCube, at least in America.
