I just noticed while watching the title screen for Windwaker that my rear projection HDTV has very light burn-in from the Halo 2 hud... I am sooo pissed off right now.

Is there any way to reverse the damage? I don't mind opening the cabinet up and tinkering a bit.

the only fix i know of for a crt rear projector is to burn in the rest of the screen.
try to even out the wear on the crts. in the future lower the brightness and contrast.
shuffle up you media dont play any one thing too long.

as a gamer i would never buy a crt projection tv.
gamer only options crt(non projection), lcd, lcd projection(high heat will degrade the lcd projector over time.), dlp projection and lcos.

stay away from plasma and rear projection crt tvs.

over all for the size and cost dlp is the best deal for now.
i have a samsung dlp and never need to worry about that problem.

good burn in read

I guess the burn-in happened during the 10hr sessions that happened daily. :D

I had figured that because matches only last an average of 10-15mins, then we return to the lobby, I wouldn't need to worry about burn-in. I was wrong. Plus I have the brightness and contrast below 50%...

There is a technique known as a "snowjob." When using this you put the tv on a channel that's total snow and let it set for a few hours. It's said to help remove slight burn-in in crts. I'm in the process of a "snowjob" as we speak.

Im afraid your stuck with it, either that or 3 new crts (assuming it was peak whites that caused the phosphor damage) which would cost more than a new set :oh_no:

Using some type of hardware, couldn't one invert the image that got burned-in and display it until the screen is neutralized? Maybe the brightness would have to be turned up a bit to compensate for an all-over burn, but it's a thought.

Trust me on this, there is nothing that can be done to reverse the damage to the phosphor dots in the effected area on the crt screen inner surface.

If you inverted the image (like a negative) and went for an all over burn, only the peak whites (which used to be black level) would burn in, the grey scale in between peak white and black level would not burn at the same rate.

Even if that was feasable you would end up with low emission crts as the "all over" phosphors would be damaged and/or have low emmission.

After leaving the set in a snowy pattern all night, I must say I think it did something. When it was first started you could see the outline very clearly in a yellow color. Now after a few hours I can't see the outline as clearly. Perhaps it's my eyes playing tricks on me...

I'll probably end up selling the set in a couple months.
