Cool, but not that really big of a leap over three.

This console generation came waaay too soon. Given the power we've seen on the original xbox with the likes of Doom 3, I wouldn't even be adversed to saying that would be impossible on that console with some real effort.

That does look gorgeous, thats just the beginning of what the next gen systems will be able to do. I am impressed.

Only the first link works for me :crying: ...but it does look good. I was hoping that the girls from DoA would start to look more real with the next gen hardware, but it looks like they are keeping with an anime style of models.

The environments look amazing.....anyone have working links to the other three links posted?

is it that far removed from Tekken 5 or VF4 though? I was expecting more. maybe I just don't think the design standards are that great for fighters anymore.

Its not just enhanced graphics but enhanced design elements these companies should be investing in. the look of the game looks dated already in my opinion.

how real do you want it to look??!?!?!?!?

seriously....how real can it look? isn't there ever going to be a break even point for reality vs. virtual reality?

i'm sick of realism...it's time to play games again...not real life...

There's only so much you can do before you start using real actors. I doubt the graphics will look much different from that for the next gen games. It's going to be all about the details. Like how big the levels are and how interactive they are. They could have made hitomi's hair move a little more realistically than just in big chucks as usual. there should be detail almost to each strand of hair. But then again it's a good start and you know it will get better.

but the actual design is still entrenched in DC era values. there's no attempt to make the game darker, or more dynamic, or arcadey. I think my biggest problem with this series is that it moved away from the original concept which was pure arcade adrenaline. they should stick to beautiful temple backrounds such as in the first part. its not about realism, but about maturing the series. its just really obvious this is aimed at teenagers..
I expected more.

Meh. The XBox 360 launch may be a very underwhelming one if this keeps up. Unless they think that Elder Scrolls 4 is going to sell the system, MS has their work cut out between now and November.

The DOA4 pic? Pretty boring. Seems like a very minimal upgrade over DOA2U and hardly any more impressive than Doom 3, like Scan mentioned. And after seeing video of Half Life 2 on XBox and some fantasy-oriented RPG/RTS-looking game on G4 last night (coming out on PC and XB, featured orks riding mastadons and looked AMAZING, but I can't remember the name if anyone can help), I can't help but think there could be a year or two of life left in the current gen if the console makers wanted to do it that way. Maybe not as much the PS2, but XB games have managed to get impressive.

And I'm sure it will improve, but those Perfect Dark Zero pics also do about nothing for me. And knowing Rare, what are the odds it will actually come out anywhere near launch? Not good at all, I'd say.

I'll still happily hand my money over to Microsoft for an XB 360 later this year, but I am far more excited to see what the PS3 will be able to do next year.

I can agree with that. I definately see your point. This game is really geared more towards the horny teenager rather than the die hard fighting game fan, but it's still a fun game to play, despite a complete lack of depth.

Making games darker is almost a cliche at this point. This may also be the retro gamer in me speaking and I'm not talking in terms of the DOA series as I'm not a huge fan of their games to begin with. We're either in the PSX era or we're in some sort of industry-wide rut where each successive game has to be more and more complex in terms of gameplay in order to be considered fun. This for me, has really hit a wall. I don't want a game with such a long learning curve or a controller with so many buttons that one virtually requires a week long course and a permit to operate the console. At this point it's no longer fun and gaming becomes a "my penis is bigger than yours" contest between friends on who can beat a game first or just boring. The whole scenario where you can just pick up a game with addictive gameplay and rock to it for hours because its amazingly fun is dying out. This is why I loved lumines so much and in general I think game design needs to take a few steps back in order to go foward. While at the same time once addictive games that have just kept being rehashed for the past 20 years are losing their shine because you've done it before. Problem A) is what Sony and the rest of the industry is going through while scenario B) is what more or less what's plaging nintendo. I just want some fun titles that don't require week long immersion, have an interesting new slant and don't require a 35 buttons + Triggers and a variety of directional devices to operate.

More titles like Katamari, Lumines, Pikmin are what I'm interested in. It's sort of sad that out of all the titles in this console generation that this all I can think of in terms of publishers introducing new gameplay archetypes and Lumines doesn't really count, it's just really fucking fun.

Like most people said, it's not worth a generation upgrade. Boring.

And the costumes are the worst ever in the series.

I hope it is fun like DOA2, at least, not like 3. Not that I really like DOA as a good 3D fighter.

Give me VF5, baby

Typically the kind of game that will not benefit the multi-core setup, it looks nice though thanks to the increased memory available for textures :) But what with the backgrounds...
either
1) you make the game look like a movie with realistic graphics and panavision-alike depth blur
2) you make the game look like animation and you keep everything crisp

i don t like the mix... kinda give me headache only looking at it.

It sure looks good, but it' doesn't feel like a next gen game. Maybe when I see it in motion.

Looks good, but not amazing.

Maybe it's like the switch from DOA2 to DOA3, you don't notice the difference until you see it running.

Many of those shots looks like DOA Ultimate shots - I bet Tecmo would be able to pull this off on the standard Xbox with some really heavy optimization.

Now that Namco has gone and made SC3 a PS2 exclusive, the above is pretty much the only thing that would get me excited to play a 3-D fighter in the foreseeable future.

And put it on the most powerful system, whatever that may be, Sega! I still fantasize about how damn good VF4 Evo would have looked on XBox.
