Help, I just got my cps 2 D & D 2 board today and I think I have been scamed. The connector that connect the a and b board together are different from the rest of my other cps 2 boards. The B board and A board i BOUGHT FROM THIS GUY ON EBAY are only compatible with each other but strangely both the a and b boards are blue and the game is in english. I think this was a asian board that was converted by just changing the case. Additionally could I just change the connector to make it compatible with a real U.S A board if I can't get my money back from this ass hole who clearly stated it was a U.S board.

This is the tech forum right, I asked in addition to my opening question could I change the connectors and does anyone know where I could buy them. I think that qualifies as a tech question.

Maybe Try This Fix?

Instead of unsoldering the connector. Just take a dremel and grind away the small plastic key on the B board connector. I have never tried this but I can't beleave that capcom made two versons of CPS2 boards. Also who was the seller.

The seller was some guy on ebay, I have to check my old email to be more precise. As for the connectors, the connectors on a real U.S A board are male and as for its B board counter part they are female. This D & D 2 board I got is the opposite of that and further more one of the connectors is recessed inside the A boaed so hacking away at it with a dremal will not solve the problem the connector will have to be replaced entirely on the b board. The problem is finding the connectors.

What color is your D&D2 board? Is it blue? Does it still have the Capcom stickers over the screws?

Case is blue but was obviously changed from grey. Sticker has been removed, black screw have been scratched up and those round black plug that cover the com port capcom have never put to use ( 2 are gone )

Yeah, it sounds like he gave you have either Grey (Asian) or Orange (South American) boards.

When the game begins to load it should say something like this...

Dungeons & Dragons 2 Shadows Over Mystara
Date
Country

For country what does it say?

This board get more and more abnormal. Upon opening it I found the battery to not be a red maxell which surprised the hell out of me because it always is a red maxell except in this case. The board in english like all asian board are and the country it claims its from is the U.S.A. Damn one of the eprom has a hand written signature on it. Most likely the seller will not return my money so want I need is those 36 pin din connectors.

Try Fry's or there's an electronics shop in Pasadena called DuVac on Colorado Blvd. They might have that connector...

Is it possible that the seller did not know it was a switcharoo?

He could have gotten it and assumed it was american.

Think about it, It's blue and has all of the required parts. The only way he would know that it's a switch is if he took it apart and inspected it.

He knew, he sell alot of arcade stuff. Beside those connectors on the A & B board pretty much gave the board away. Besides it was returned to him by another buyer who discovered its dirty little secret. And I got in contact with the seller, he told me to get lost. I filing claim & here comes negative feed back.

Are you getting to keep the board as well and perform the mod on it with the connectors in mouser?

I would really like to try this, does anyone have an awesome idea for an adapter design that will not require soldering to the A board, sort of a gender changer (also extender in the case of the inverted one). My idea is that I can make an adapter for each individual connector that way I can play all CPS 2 games (both green/blue, and grey/orange) simply by adding or removing the adapters. It will probably look funny with adapters, because the B board will probably be raised considerably above the A board.

As soon as I need $25 worth of parts from mouser I think I'll try it. Finding a minimum and uniform level of thickness for the adapters will be the tough part. That and soldering 96 pins twice per connector ( or 8 times per board) is 768 pins :buttrock:

cheers,
-DT

No I'm sending the board back and he's giving my money back. About that gender bender ideal, in theory it sound like it should work. But you think capcom would had already have considered this when they were thinking of ways to keep one region from playing another region board.

I really don't think they care that much. Taito F-3 all you have to do is melt off some plastic on the connectors to make it play all regions. If Capcom was really that worried about it, you wouldn't be able to play JP games on US boards because they would have made the roms not interchangeable due to region lockouts or some such. I know people have converted a single board from grey/orange connectors to blue/green connectors, so it's definitely just a matter of gender and the recessed connector.

So it really wouldn't be too difficult to build an adapter for each of the 4 connectors.

Then why did capcom bother with the whole multi-colored, different connector thing in the first place. Their just dicks I think.

I think you hit it right on the head with that statement... They ARE dicks... but they also make awesome games... with their suicide batteries, and offset connectors!!!
