could be a different voltage, it´ll be easier to just ask the seller for this info.

Ask the seller, and lets hope you havent fried the machine. im told earlier japanese models are very sensitive to higher voltage than intended. I use a stepdown converter for my aes.

I know, I´m waiting for his replay but it could take a couple of hours! So I wanted to hear what you have to say about it.

So you think it maybe could be a diffrent voltage!? But why?

My Jap neo geo is 147 XXX and the US is 52 XXX and they work with the same! The modded one is 31 XXX...

We will see what he says!

NEVER use power supplies with missing matching voltage!!!!!!

Chances are you fried it. Did you try the one that came with the system?

I'm sorry, but if it's fried, chances are you're out of luck. The seller isn't responsible in a case like this. Hopefully it still works or can be easily repaired for you!

No, cant plug it in here in Sweden it is different power plugs here! But the one I have works with my other systems, why should this one be different?

I don't have the numbers in front of me, but there were several different revisions of the Neo AES hardware and also the power supply requirements. I believe some were 5V and some 9V. You just need to look at the bottom of the unit and the power supply to determine requirements (should always look at that first when trying hardware for the first time).

Thats why we use a stepdown converter.. plug the neo powerplug into that, and THEN into the wall.

I hope you are lucky and didnt fry the board.. It would be a great shame.

Agreed, you gotta use the adapter supplied or the seller cannot be blamed.

I meant to put an "agreed" in there since I think you're right. I was seconding your opinion. You reputation as a tech is pretty good and who am I to argue? :)

I wouldn't worry too much. I did exactly the same thing when I first got my aes. I plugged in a 9v supply when I should have used a 5v supply. When I figured out what I'd done and corrected it, it still worked fine.

You can tell which power supply you need from the label on the bottom of the console. If it says PRO POW or PRO POW 2 you need a 5v supply. If it says PRO POW 3 or PRO POW E you need a 9v supply.

I did what grimm suggested and used a stepdown converter. That way you're using the original power supply and there's no confusion.

That's assuming the underside of the console matches it's guts. I've seen mismatched shells a couple of times now.

The one that I use for my Jap Neo is a 10V supply, because it stands 10V on the orginal SNK made adapter! Weird why is it 3 different voltages 5v, 9v and 10v???
Today I´m going to buy a 5v and see if the new neo geo will still work or if its to late! I´m crossing my fingers...

Do the right thing and buy a stepdown converter, and use the original equipment. That is always best.

Hey nice 1 I'm glad it's all ok. That would suck if it didnt work considering it was modded and all.

Bought it from JapanGamesNow for 399USD, with the shipping to Sweden 465USD. No, no games but S-video, stereo cable and a new style joystick! The Neo Geo is in Very Good+ condition!

I have a question, I know this is the wrong forum but anyway, How much shall I take for a METAL SLUG 3 US version in MINT condition?

Hey seeing as you're in Europe you wanna get the rgb video mod as well! Crack it open and start soldering ;)

That would be annoying but still shouldn't fry the board with the wrong supply, as I found out by experience.

Does anyone know which revision boards use which voltage? I know the early ones use 5v and the later ones 9v but I don't know on which revision the switch to 9v occured.

I was kinda joking really. I didn't expect you to start modding your machine seeing as you just got it working. But if you wanna find out how it's done and give it go, here are the links:

http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=111152
http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92840
http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102025

Use the first one if you have an early revision board (which you most probably have seeing as you needed a 5v power supply) or the other two links if you have a late revision board. If you've got any unanswered questions, ask MKL. He's the man on this subject.
