Loopz asked in my SuperPotato, Akihabara thread in General Discussions about whether I went karaoke-drinking in Tokyo. The answer is yes. I actually met up with longtime members Tsuka and RBJakeSpecial.

I figured some people would find this amusing, so here are some photos -some of which I can't really remember... particularly Karaoke.

Drinking in Japan is quite fun. As Tsuka noted (and is clear to see to all), there really isn't much of a hang-up on public drunkeness. With mass transit everywhere, you can pretty much go nuts. Only problem in cities like Tokyo is that the last trains are just after midnight, and the first trains are at 5am, so there's little middle ground (taxis are too expensive). Still, there ain't anything preventing you from having fun within those parameters.

Tsuka, Bobak and RBJakeSpecial get hammered on Sake and Japanese Pseudo-beer (this was RBJake's going away party from his old work, we'd been drinking before we got there. The nice Aussie chick took our photo)

The Karaoke place had some weird names for its rooms...

But who cares when you can sing/scream and order more beer?

I don't know how this photo ended up blurry because the camera was on a stationary object (I think I cracked something in my forearm because its over a week later and it hurts but there's no bruise) I don't know the guy in the tie, I think he used to work with RBJake.

Anyway, if you're in Japan do take at least one night to go get wasted and karaoke. Getting wasted probably wasn't even necessary (it's fun if you're with the right people), but it certainly made it more manic.

No, I didn't sing (or understand) J-pop. I did a pretty bad rendition of REM and Korn, as I recall. My voice didn't get back to its normal loud self until this week.

Lousy drunks. :oh_no:

How many drinks did it take before you started smiling? (last picture)

My friends and I always make plans to do karaoke but at the last minute most people always back out of it. I should just rent a karaoke machine and bring some booze.

Look at me! I'm a drunken Japanese cliche!

Translated Jibberish I heard:
[Ha-hah! Silly round-eyed gaijin act like idiots. Let's mug'em!]

Actually, I karaoke occasionally at different bars in the Twin Cities, the key word being "bars".

Tsukaesugi lost his ability to walk, my ass.

I see Bobak trying to cop a feel off of Tsukaesugi in that second picture. Look how low his hand is on Tsukaesugi's Gluteus Maximus.

Second pic:

RBjake is a true Japanese person that native Japanese can't live up to. The double Peace sign on a single hand is proof of that.

I am so glad to see Bobak resuming his Jesus impersonation duties.

I've always been curious as to whether or not it's a written Japanese law that unless you have a drink or microphone in your hand that you have to make some sort of hand/finger(s) gesture when getting your picture taken.

Good time indeed. I can't wait to go back to Japan in January. The drunken karaoke can be fun indeed.

Bobak, no ladies on your night out on the town?

There were ladies, but none were NG.com members :p

Besides, I was there with my g/f (although she didn't join us for the drinking fest pictured above) and Tsuka's married :loco: We just watched RBJake work his gaijin mojo.

Wait, so you were drunk in Tokyo and then went out for karaoke?

What kind of mod are you?

I expected some drunk Neo shenanigans! Where's you getting kicked out of an arcade for trying to lick the emperess in MD3 and then trying to take a piss on an Atomiswave cab?

Seriously, your custom rank should read something along the lines of "I'm to hip to be a mod!"

If I had access to the Dredd account I'd do it; one can only hope NeoGumby is reading.

Lordy, that night was a lot of fun.

Definitely one of the more memorable N-G.com Tokyo get-togethers. Thanks again for coming out with us.

I got worse after the karaoke, and Jake wasn't faring much better...

...so that's how we got home! At the end of the night he was the only person who wasn't staggering, and he was kind enough to somehow bundle me and Jake onto one of the last trains back.
