Naomi DIMM and GD ROM - Universal?

Just a real quickie -

Will Naomi GD ROM and DIMM work with any Naomi Mobo (US/Japanese etc)?

I've searched this forum and found one post that states that some of the more obscure Japanese games require the re-programming of the DIMM.

Is it the case that in all but the above circumstance, they will work across regions?

Thanks

First of all try to check www.sega-naomi.com and its forum.

The GD drive will work in any Naomi 1 or 2 as long as the bios in the mobo is at least the E version, it is easily replaceable if it's not. Some games will only work with a certain bios region. In adition, some of the newer games will require the latest revision of the DIMM cart.

Thanks very much Amano!

This is for the G version of the BIOS, so I'm hoping I will be good for most games

Why Arcades become so complicated?

I miss the "easy to use" period of the MVS.

Bootleggers and shady importers also miss those days. I can't think of any other reason. Of course on the end the fucked up are we the home users, but as always all the arcade stuff is not meant to be used at home. And in the Naomi case, it is much better to just go the Dremcast route.

As Amano said... Bios are the main source of compatibility errors. Pick up all three bios (US/EXPORT/JPN) and you should be able to play any Naomi game (Actually JPN will play all games so you could go with just JPN).

The only Dimm compatibility I am aware of is on the Naomi 2 with VF4FT.

While I do enjoy the simplicity of my Neo MVS, once you read a couple Diagrams Naomi hardware and software are really simple as well. It's very nice to not worry about receiving bootleg Naomi games, besides I own several great titles for Naomi just becuase they work on my Naomi 2 mobos and they were also never released on the Dreamcast. Dreamcast is easier by far for the ported titles, but not the same. I have one, but it just doen't compare to having the real thing...
