Anyone tried this?
Just wondering.

If you tried a sync splitter would help too.

On a similar note
Has anyone had any luck with those boards using any encoder, I know the AD724/725 encoders cannot handle them (tried with sync splitters, varying sync levels, RC filters etc. What about the Sony encoder ICs as used on the Jrok ?

I have a JROK 3.0 board and MK1,2, and Ultimate MK3 work great on them.

Maybe just an issue with the AD encoders, in theory they should work- may be time for a jrok.

Colnel Kurtz uses an AD 725 for SVideo/Composite and an unknown (or at least i think it is) chip for the component.

Also, Jrok works. It just won't work with some TV's.

He explains it on his page.

Midway games such as Smash TV, NBA JAM, Mortal Komat ( 1, 2 & 3 ) . These games use a vertical sync. frequency of around 56Hz ( the majority of games having a vertical sync of around 60Hz ). This vertical sync. frequency appears to be incompatible with some Sony TV sets, most notably the Sony WEGA series. These sets cannot sync to this frequency and the picture will roll vertically.

This is NOT a problem with the output from the converter is it purely a problem with the TV receiver.

I have tried the AD encoders on Sharp, LG, Sony, Philips, Panasonic, Hitachi and others.
Results are the same with these boards.
MVS run perfectly.

I think the issue is the automatic gain control (AGC) because when I use my video input card on my ocmputer, using DScaler to watch it, some games have messed up color, and adjusting the Macrovision timing fixes it. Macrovision works by messing with the AGC signal in the stream, so maybe the odd vertical refresh causes it to freak out on some TV's.

with the AD encoders Im not only experiencing messed up colour on certain boards (notably MK2), but also unstable horizontal sync. Raiden 2 is a good example, it runs at 53 Hz I think (nothing to do with H sync), and for whatever reason it will not lock using an AD encoder ? It locks but twitches.
Maybe the AD device can only handle 50 or 60 Hz and nothing inbetween ?

hrmm, interesting thread. Anyone try with a CXA1645? I would think that would be the most universal chip since it's inside Saturn, PSX, Genesis, Neo Geo CD, etc...

I want to get a Raiden 2 board but I would be severely pissed off it didn't work with any encoders :blow_top:

NeoBitz uses an AD724. The R2N uses an AD725

And the component circuit isn't a single chip but a network of more standard chips.
