Of course. They brought out some decent arcade ports during the NES days.
Kid Niki, Ring King, Karate Champ, and Breakthru were great.

And the arcade version of Heavy Barrel is still one of my favorites.

Their RoboCop arcade game kicked arse, as did many of their other games. Supposedly the RoboCop arcade game was supposed to come to GBA back in October 2002, but I don't know if it ever did.

Without Dataeast, the world would have been deprived of one of the best and brightest videogame stars of all times.

More importantly, if there had never been Karnov, there never could have been Dance, Dance Karnov!

Yes, BurgerTime fucking rocks.

Magical Drop is probably the crowning achievement of Data East, in my eyes. Even though they made some nice other games.

I'm just so glad to have the priveledge of having the only great Magical Drop portable game in existance, on the Neo Geo Pocket Color.

Still, MD3 is one of the best puzzlers ever, and I'm kind of mad that I could never get the Saturn port of it.

I have Chain Reaction, MD2, and MD3 on Saturn. :D

Well said. That was the first arcade game I remember playing, after the MVS and holds some of my fondest gaming memories :)

did you mean to post this in your Wolfteam topic?

edit- shit, my bad. Road Blaster/Avenger and Cobra Command arcade games were by Dataeast, but i guess Time Gal is from Taito according to http://www.dragons-lair-project.com/games/ and KLOV.

Great games from the Data East era: Magical Drop 2 & 3, Cobra Command Laser game (they also marketed a scroll-shooting version of CC). Heavy Barrel, Robocop, Karnov and of course the classics BurgerTime and Bump & Jump :buttrock:

I miss the fact they're no longer around as a company, but I don't miss their games as I own a good deal of them. Shit I'm playing through Dragon Ninja right now... err... well I was playing it like 20 minutes ago anyhow. Shit, I'd rather have them make a "Come Back" than to see EA buying up everything.

I was thinking yesterday that Bad Dudes would make a good 80's spoof movie. Much like Starsky and hutch was for thier genre.

I miss them, but not as much as I miss Technos

I loved their beat'em ups, high quality (though title for the best beat'em up ever goes to Capcom's Final Fight)

I wish I could agree on this, but something tells me Hollywood would find a way to fuck up even a Bad Dudes vs. Dragon Ninja movie. ***Remember what happened to Double Dragon???***

:oh_no:

Now in the right hands, I could see it. It have to be filmed in the manner of the old 80's Golan-Globus Production movies, where it's a camp film but the film actually takes itself seriously... American Ninja was one of their films along with Invasion USA. Campy but serious... but today it wouldn't be a Israeli film company making extremely violent/campy flicks to entertain, instead it be made by the likes of Jerry Bruckheimer and be over the top and just stupid.

Well Michael Dudikoff is "THE MAN" anyhow. I don't care what ppl say about the dude. He was bad ass as Joe in the American Ninja movies, he was bad ass in Platoon Leader killing Viet Cong and NVA... and he single handedly took on the middle east in The Human Sheild. Don't know what ole' Dudikoff is doing these days though.

Always wondered if there was a plain "Magical Drop" game before the 2 or 3 and I found it. This came out a year before Magical Drop 2:
