... there is this one idea for a video game that I thought would be cool. I've always fancied a ninja action game that would put a major emphasis on storytelling. Basically the storyline is pretty familiar: young female member of a large clan gets blackmailed and left for dead, young daughter of a respected swordsmith rescues girl, girl vows revenge and becomes a kuniochi. Kinda like Kill Bill, but in feudal Japan. The game would play like Ninja Gaiden, but with three major differences:
The game won't be impossible to beat, yet provide enough of a challenge without becoming frustrating.
The camera will be fixed a set distance behind the main character.
No jumping puzzles. :)
Here's the thing, though- the characters would use modern slang (all dialogue would be recorded in Japanese, for atmospheric puropses), and would use modern music. The modern slang and stuff would be used to fashion the dialogue as a "dramady"- part comedy, part drama. Yeah, yeah, it doesn't make much sense now, but imagine the two main characters walking slo-mo with the theme to "Shaft" going on in the background, and it all makes sense now. :buttrock: I've got an iTunes playlist of songs that are inspiring me to do this: a sample of the artists I've got on said playlist are Johnny Cash, Stone Temple Pilots, Nine Inch Nails, Tears For Fears and Led Zepplin. It's kinda like a Quentin Tarantino movie: the music helps add to the atmosphere and fits in perfectly with the situation going on.

I guess the good thing about this idea I have going on in my head is that I'm going to take a creative writing course in college next semester, so I can refine this idea further. Comments? Suggestions? If I make this into a video game, would you guys buy it?

There's more to it than that. Once I get my shit together and attend that creative writing class, perhaps I'll share some of the story with you guys. Yung Burnout, Blade of the Immortal? What's that?

Blade of the Immortal is an anime. Look it up at animenfo.com for a short description. I actually see how it's kinda similar to that.

I'll look it up. As for your sig, who knows, mabye some day down the road I'll hook up with Tetsuya Mitsuguchi and do a music game... mabye even a sequel to Rez or something...

Also, am I the only one who thinks that a Family Guy platformer starring Brian and Stewie would be a good idea? :loco:

Well that kind of shit never sells. Look what happened to the futurama game they made. Probably sold a copy or a manual.

OMG! OMG! OMG!!! I get to go into fanboy mode :tickled:

Story & Art by: Hiroaki Samura

In the chaotic world of eighteenth-century Japan, outlaw samurai who settle disputes with their blades aren't uncommon. But one rônin is different: the wandering outlaw who calls himself Manji. Years ago, he betrayed his corrupt lord, and since then he's killed a hundred men and earned a reputation as the toughest man in Japan. Of course, every other would-be tough guy who wants to make a name for himself is gunning for Manji, but they don't know his secret: a cranky old nun has filled his body with mystical "holy bloodworms" that repair any damage done to Manji's body. He can't die... even if he wants to! Tiring of the burden of immortality, Manji makes a deal with the nun — if he makes up for his past crimes by slaying one thousand evil men, she'll remove the bloodworms from his body. When Manji is hired by an angry young woman named Rin, who is seeking revenge for the murder of her parents

And that's just the stuff covered in the first couple of books as the story has kept that main focus but there's been twists and new events up the yin-yang. It also features some of the best drawn fight scenes I've ever seen, also throw in the fact that Manji get's his limbs cut off and still comes up with a victory( he has a katana but he uses these mini-blades more ).

You can find it at most bookstores now, I highly recommend it

yeah its the best stuff I've read in ages comicbook-wise.

I have a number of ideas for games (survival horror with emphasis on the survival) but feel like a complete idiot voicing them.

I've been thinking about something like that too, only with a strong team element as well. Just you and a friend, the lone survivors of a zombie infestation outbreak, armed with only wits, each other, and a couple of shotguns and two backpacks full of shells. It would give me an excuse to go rent Dawn of the Dead (both the original and the remake) to get more influences.

mine would be called battle of the brains and you'd have upto 30 zombies controlled by players, and 10 human characters controlled by other players. zombies need to eat brains to survive and the humans need to destroy the zombie's brains in order to kill them. you can have a free for all where the humans or zombies kill and scavenge (i.e. take from another who has just done the dirty work), or work together. the premise is that the more you succeed, the stronger you become.

An undead Counter-Strike? Where do I sign up? Learn to make a mod for Half-Life 2 or something, this could be neat if done right. ;)

My idea for a zombie game would be great, but for a different reason. Two words: Co-op Multiplayer. The gaming world needs more co-op multiplayer action games, and this would fit the bill. :buttrock:

Also, is it me, or would a Penny Arcade platformer where Tycho and Gabe save the world from the clutches of the evil Fruit Fucker make a great game? Just think about the video game commentaries! The cel-shaded graphics! The foul language! And if you're wondering what a Fruit Fucker is...

yeah could work. I would be interested in co-op gaming, maybe taking RE0 to the next logical level.

the 'game' I was describing wouldn't be counter-strike style though. I don't particularly like FPS. I want screaming zombies and human characters fending them off with a fork to the head.
locations would be in old houses and gameplay would be slowish. I find it interesting to have a game where you're attacked by intelligent undead things. RE4 meets powerstone? yeah right..

Oh, a Resident Evil-Counter-Strike type of mishmash? I'd see that working. :glee:

heh.. no thanks, I hate counterstrike and that kind of game with a passion.

if it couldn't be made scary it wouldn't be worth it. I'm making this crap up as I go along. but you could have zombies mutating depending on stimuli.
note that the amount of zombies would be 2 times that of humans - making it harder for the humans as they are 2 to 1 outnumbered (or more), and the zombies would have to compete hard to get some grey matter.

edit: anyway that's enough from me. sorry for spamming your thread.

I wouldn't call it spamming the thread. I'd call it contributing. :) I gotta go to sleep now, I'll pick this up in the morn. :)

if i made a game, it would be like a kof type thingy, but all the characters would be designed by the players. It would use kof's engine, but the big difference is, it is an online-strongly-advised game like counter strike. there would be a direct option on the main menu for submitting characters, so you could make the characters you want to play as. (all the characters would be hand selected tho)
probably for the PC, MAC or XBox, at a stretch the ps2

This thread got some really cool ideas, keep it goin!

Okay. How about an All-Japan Grand Touring Championship game? Yeah, I know that Gran Turismo games have some historical JGTC cars, but I want a hardcore simulation here: all the real tracks, all the current and past JGTC cars, all accurately modeled, with some fantasy tracks, and the Twin Ring Motegi oval (the JGTC uses the TR Motegi road course) and the California Spedway road coarse layout used in the JGTC's American exhibition race (and the NASCAR oval of California Speedway, too! ). And I want the real JGTC rules too: if I run a race the full distance, I want to be forced into the pits to make a driver change, like in the real races.

Hey, as long as EA keeps their stranglehold on the NASCAR license, and as long as former Papyrus Racing Games head David Kaemmer needs work, it's a viable idea. If nothing else, the Japanese race fans will love it to death. :buttrock:
