Visited Felix my friendly arcade vendor the other day to see if he had a 14" monitor to sell me, Im converting my Taito cocktail cab, used for mame at present so it has a PC monitor, into a dedicated Galaga (Gallag board set with rom change) cocktail cab.

Turns out he has a pile of "faulty" boardsets hes otherwise dumping at the tip. So I will do him a favour and save him the journey within a few days. Previous rescue missions (parts 1 & 2 of the story) have netted on average 30- 40 boardsets, mostly older bootleg games, but some other interesting stuff too. Got a MVH-MV1FS once.

So I cant wait, the thing is that I have no idea whats in store- maybe some gems. Whatever, Im going to be busy identifying, testing and hopefully fixing what I can. Will keep you posted. There maybe some boards that Im unable to get going that other members could use for parts.

I would be interested in any 90's era Midway boards you might find that you don't want/don't care to fix.

Eventually got around to picking up the boards today, about 20 board sets, mostly bootlegs, there are a few originals, the only one I recognise so far is Toaplans Zero Wing (no Midways Raz)
There are 5 Gallags- should be able to get a couple going with a bit of luck.

Very sweet!!

I was trying to talk to this guy I know here in town that does repairs for people w/ routes and people with cabs at home about any extra PCBs he might have. He just said he didn't have anything he wanted to get rid of. Said he had a bunch that he didn't even know what they were, no Neo Geo though. Maybe if I keep working on him he'll let me take a peep one day and maybe get some cheap and/or untested boards. Hooked me up w/ a peter chou PSU for $10 once ;)

He told me some guy was in who got a complete working 4 slot cab pretty close to here(~30 miles) w/ working monitor (I think 25") for $150!!! No 4-slot motherboard, but still the monitor is worth $150. I'm gonna have to call this place as soon as I get a job and get my new 4-slot motherboard working. hehe I could use a cab for $150 even if I have to make a conversion.

I dont know what Im going to find, thats the best part of it. It turns out that there are 7 gallag board sets, already got one up and running and cheated with G2 & G6 so it boots as Namco Galaga :) (if anyone is interested in rom board locations, gallag compared to galaga and maybe some hints on servicing the gallag boardset please pm), the Zero Wing does not boot, it has spillage on the board, will clean it up this weekend. The last visit picked up a Truxton.
Its hell of a job, but otherwise they go to trash :spock:
There are also some non jamma post 90 boards- I guess they are gamblimg games, just need to figure out the basic connections for testing.

It has a lot of jumpers around the roms that do not look like a botched repair or hack but more factory. Is this normal ? It has TP-015 screen printed on the board.

Thanks NT, unfortunately with that board its a 2 board set and I only got the bottom board.

another issue, on the Gallag boardset I can get it into cocktail mode by grounding a pin on the edge connect (forget which now) and the game flips for player two, the problem is that the controls do not work for P2. From what I understand and looking at the pin out, the fire and left/right buttons are common for player 1 and 2, so you could interfere with the opponents gameplay (I seem to remember thats the way these were when I used to play as a kid, maybe the real Namco Galaga is different ?)
Any ideas on what may be causing P2 controls not to work.

1. Sorry, I think now its more of a spiderman/rad mobile 32 bitter rather than a titan which I thought at first, sorry. would need a closer board look.

as far as Gallags go, I've never seen one work cocktail. You may just jumper the 1 and 2 player controls for it....

I have already done that but none of the the controls work when the game switches over to player two- maybe a faulty board (I have some other galag boards so will substitute, thought it may have been a setting issue)

Can anyone ID this boardset, it seems to be early 90s maybe Korean or Taiwanese manufacture. By the look of the layout and screen print it doesnt look a blatant bootleg, but you never know.

ok...PCBs i've found w/ 3 ribbon connectors so far:

Sega Buck Rogers
http://arcadecollecting.xmission.com/pcbpics/p1477.html

Shinobia
http://arcadecollecting.xmission.com/pcbpics/p963.html

Guerilla War
http://arcadecollecting.xmission.com/pcbpics/p1048.html

then there is this unkown board that I think is a shinobia bootleg
http://arcadecollecting.xmission.com/pcbpics/p1381.html

Out of all of these, Shinobia looks closest, so maybe it's a boot of this. It could be anything though!!! Does it boot?
