2-Slot Requires 12V for headphone sound?

Ok so I'm working on a fun little project, I've got a 2 slot mobo and I'm trying to get sound out of the headphone jacks. All I currently have hooked up is the +5V lines and that's it. Do I need to add a 12V line to get any sound out of the headphone jacks?

Also for info on the board, the headphone jack is just that, a jack. There are two of them, and no 4-pin output that you would wire up to a jack on a cabinet which I thought was wierd since I figured all the MVS boards with headphone output used the 4 pinout connector.

There are a couple of versions of the MVH-2
One uses a regulated 5 volts derived from the 12 volt rail to supply the sound op amps. There is a simple mod to supply the op amps from the main 5 volt rail.
It involves taking the 5 volts to the output of the 7805 regulator.
MKL is the expert in this field, Id wait for his confirmation on this.

I'm new to this, but couldn't you just hook both the 12v, and 5v lines up at the same time? I thought all JAMMA boards required you to do this.

Just drop a +5v to the +5 output on the Voltage regulator (7805).

I don't know the pinout but the three rails on the Reg IC are +12 (input), +5 (output) and ground (common). Obviously, you can use a continutity test to figure out the +12 and ground pins.

I ran a consolized two slot off a a single +5v, 3amp Wall mount adaptor.

Likewise, if you had a big enough +12v adaptor, you could run a two slot by the same method (without a +5v psu).

The 12 volts usually only supplies the audio output IC, the boards run fine without sound. So to get audio headphone out you dont need the 12 volts. Some MVS boards however derive the 5 volts for the sound pre amps from the 12 volt rail via a 5 volt regulator IC, hence the need for the mod.
