FEEDBACK POLLS: real feedback accounting and scammer defense

Should we establish a Poll based Feedback standard?

  • No, just do scammer branding

    Votes: 0 0.0%

  • Total voters
    18

I posted this in the Potential Scammer Branding thread, but think it deserves it's own.

See, the issue with "Branding" is, and Charlie points it out too, pushing the scammer to creating a new account. One good way, yet still a method with problems, is to post the name, address, and info in the Black List. That way you may be able to make the connection. But I could just as easily use a fake name or a friends.

It occurs to me that there is only one way to create a Trusted Seller List. Meaning start a running log of sellers that NO ONE has had a problem with. And keep a running tally of votes for and against. Basically this is what many of us were hoping the Feedback forum would turn into.

Ah ha!!! Idea!

How about this? Start a thread in the Feedback Forum for either yourself or someone else as a poll with the options being:

  • Great Seller - no issues
  • Good seller - minor issue (slightly long delivery time, poor comm....)
  • Questionable seller - Goods were received, but poorly packed, bad condition, etc
  • Poor Seller - Never received goods and lost $$$

AND MAKE THE POLL PUBLIC.

Benefits of this system:
- Can only leave feedback once.
- Can see who left feedback (so false feedback is easily seen)
- Can't change vote
- Easily searchable.

You could do this now, but I think an accepted format would be best:
- CORRECTLY SPELLED member name appears in title
- Poll options are standardized
- MEMBERS MUST SEARCH TO SEE IF A POLL ALREADY EXISTS before posting a new one = I think the solution here is that the seller should create the thread him/herself

Thoughts?

The poll thing is a good idea...

The title of the thread should be just the seller's/buyer's name to be rated, nothing more nothing less. This would make searching easier and cut down on repeated threads.

Scammers should still be branded though...

Scammer branding. Plus post all personal info so buyers have a defense against scammers using new accounts.

Sounds like allot of hard work, but this would be great if possible. With all these n00bs flying in who can you trust.

How is it a lot of work? You just create your own feedback thread or get one created for you (especially if you're a n0ob or scammer) and the options are standard (obviously you have to put them in yourself).

Would probably take you 3 minutes or so to do.

In fact, I'm going to do mine now.

Oh, one additional thing. It should be part of everyone's responsibility to follow up good and bad transactions by doing a feedback thread. Seriously, it would help everyone out a lot.

Oh I misunderstood sorry, I thought you meant everyone having a Ranking under the name of the member/s, personally I thought that would be good, gets straight to the point with it and we dont get peoples "Have you dealt with.........Member" etc.

Hmmmm I better start a feedback thread although I aint that bothered about selling or buying much, and even when I have its been like the people I know.

My vote = Yep, with the 4 options and a public poll format. *Oh and D-Lite would you mind changing my name in your "Great Sellers" listing from MegaDrive 20XX to Mercenary X99 please. When I sold you those PCE games I hadn't made the change, but I don't want to confuse any noobs in the future who will do business with me. Thanks.

I'll tell you what. Create a new Feedback thread for yourself with the poll and I'll vote for ya. :D

I think this is a critical mass issue. Just get doing it!

Also, if you know you have previous feedback threads, link them when you start a Poll thread.

Well,

i would say you should make something like a trade/sale/buy-tool!

Only People who´ve dealt together should be able to give the other side a Rating! If a Member of this Community ripped of 3-5 People, a SiGN should be appear insteat of his Avatar!

Option: "Attention" Scammer or something like this!
Option: "Even a URL to his Auctions, Items for sale and so on!

On the one hand you could bann potential and real Scammers, course you´ve market them! So everybody could notice Information about that Person!

On the other Hand, it could happen that a normal Person could be called a Scammer by a Scammer!

My choice:

More than 1000+ positive Trades/Sales/Buys *a good Seller/Trader/Buyer-Emblem like eBay does!
More than 100, 10 and so on!

This would be a good Solution for all Members on these Forums imo!

Chris

Only one question, what about feedback as a buyer?

This is especially important for new people usually, if they're a first time seller at least they have some feedback as a buyer.

Great idea. But as mentioned earlier, there is no way to implement this here. A new tool not only would require all the software to do so, but would require a great deal of someone's time. And based on how often we can implement the Suggestions, you'd have a better time changing the Forum colors to hot pink ;)

This seems like a good idea, but here's one problem with it.

What about multiple transactions with the same seller? If the first transaction goes great, and the second one goes horribly - how do you go back and change your vote? I realize that you could post a negative feedback in the thread, but that sort of defeats the whole purpose - which is to be able to get an accurate picture of the seller at a glance. Anyway, just a thought.

Important, yes. But I'd say let's tackle seller problems first. It's much less common to hear about a buyer as a scammer, right? Yes, a MASSIVE amount of time can be wasted with a shitty buyer, no doubt. But for that you could still post a thread in Feedback with the title "YYYY is a bad buyer".

This is a very good point. But you could still leave a comment in the thread. That ain't goin' away. And most likely the thread would balloon in size due to the almost definite debate that would ensue. So yes, you have a great point, but as I commented above, let's take baby steps here.

True I know its nearly impossible to get scammed as a seller by a buyer, but I still think buyer feedback is important for when someone wants to sell something, but yes that can just be posted.

Maybe just an easy Feedback-Rating System!

Option:

A selection of Subject:

Options: Buyer / Seller / Trader / unknown as default! (if Member hasn´t business yet)

Next step would be a Rating of his service like:

Option 1.) 1-10 Stars (10 GREAT - 1 Help me out => SCAM!!!)

This shall be possible to install on these Forums, or isn´t possible course you´re using a vBulletin-Board? :smirk:

Again, not as easy as it sounds. One of the main reasons is Mouse_Master, the guy largely responsible for what you see, is a very busy person. The other reason and probably the biggest is that vBulletin wasn't really built to handle such input. Possible? Maybe. But simpler solutions are better.

I like the current method of show and tell....... Ratings and shit would be overboard and do little to help the community.

Most of the scammers are either 1. New or 2. have a few good transactions.....

I don't see how this would help any situation......

I've definitely had a few transactions with members that have been around and that have always been less than perfect, but never so bad that anyone posted about it. That's more what I'm looking for. Well, that and I want to know who is GOOD to deal with. Like, Highly Recommended sellers. Peolple that when I see their name I think "damn, Rot is having a sale, I'm buying whatever he is selling". You know what I'm saying?

I went with your Idea (GREAT idea) but added /buyer, since I buy as much as I sell, so my questions are Seller/Buyer.

I also added to the last one Please Explain Below. If someone is posting a really bad feedback about someone I think they should have to explain what happened.
