Neo Geo CD stops playing games after language mod

I got an odd issue and can't seem to figure it out.

I've got 2 Japanese Neo Geo CD systems that I wanted to cover to English, so I performed the mod shown at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KE7ijnVWgO8

After doing so, the memory menu correctly shows in English, as does the various notifications on the CD player, such "Please wait a moment" and "Insert CD", and music CDs play perfectly. However my test copy of Metal Slug stops working and the system goes into a reset loop after trying to read the disc and displaying "Please wait a moment" for about 10-15 seconds.

On one of the systems, I cut the wire and it immediately resolved the issue.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Note that both are top loaders, not CDZ. I also tried Samurai Shodown and it does the same thing.

Remove the resistor, it's there to hold it high but if you are setting it permanently then just remove it.

Thanks for the suggestion. Should that resolve the reset issue? I ask because I didn't see the resistor being mentioned anywhere, including what appears to be your own tutorial at http://www.jamma-nation-x.com/jammax/tutorials.html

You shouldn’t have to remove it but yours is acting weird.

As for the resetting, it could be a power supply issue with either connection or current.
