How many Jap MD version are there? Is it only MD 1 (the huge one)?

How bout US? There are 3 version right? With MD 3 being the smallest system?

Can I play Jap games on US system?

Mega Drive model 1
Mega Drive model 2 (small one)

There is no MD model 3.

You'll need an adaptor in order to play US game on JPN MD or vise versa.

Currently I have the followings in hand:

JPN Mega Drive model 1 (bought in 1991 and still MIB)
US Genesis core system (release model 1 but before model 2, small one, MIB)
US Genesis model 2
US Genesis 3

I rarely get rid of my systems.......
90% of my systems in hand are MIB
I do play them often but always take care of them carefully.

My Supergrafx is like new......even I've had it for years.....

tell you the truth, it's quite hard to snap JPN system in US...

you can get US Genesis at used game store but not JPN one.

HK & JPN stores have a lot but either:

1) too pricey
2) price is good but shipping will kill you

Have you tried <a href="http://www.playthegames.com?" target="_blank">www.playthegames.com?</a>
They have some old systems and price is alright.
But keep in mind that their shipping method is as bad as Buyrite....

Pal Asian?
No idea.

If I were you, I'll get US Genesis 3.
It'll play most JPN games on it without convertor.

Is that so? Then I'll get Genesis 3 instead. Can I play Yu Yu on it?

But coz it's small, does it mean it's not as good as the original, just as you said SFC jr. is not as good as the normal one??

older jap games will work without any kind of adapter, you simply need to file out the cart slot to make them fit.
some games have a country protection, but the genesis 1 is VERY easy to mod to japanese with a switch and 2 wires.

If you get the Genesis 3, don't plan on playing 32X or any of the Sega CD systems with it. It has no support for them. I had problems with mine, I had to turn it on and then reset the system to get it to work.

Genesis 3 doesn't support Game Genie so ..........you'll not be able to play certain JPN titles (Yu Yu, Contra Hardcorp, Alien Soldlier, Vampire Killer, Thunderforce IV.....etc)

For $19.99 you can get brand new Genesis 3.
It'll play 80% JPN, 100% US & 90% of PAL games.

Otherwise you can find used Genesis 2 for about $12 at most used game stores.
