Going for a full set? If not, what games make the cut? What have you been been itching to play that's new to you? Old favorites? Looking for recommendations?

Discuss*:

Trying to keep my initial list small. I have a tendancy to not spend too much time on any one game when presented with a large list.

Biggest thing I'm looking forward to is Dracula X, but there's a whole new world of PCE, and even some Turbo games, that I've never played before. Would welcome recommendations on the PCE front.

Trying out the Ys series, since I've never really played any. I had Wanderers on the SNES but never gave it more than a few minutes of play.

Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu
Splatterhouse
The Bonks
Final Lap Twin - I enjoy this game more than I should. I beat it bitd and wouldn't mind seeing if it has held up at all.
A few of the shooters Raiden (favorite), Dragon Spirit (close second), Blazing Lasers. Wouldn't mind a few recommendations in this catagory aswell.

That's going to be it, largely, for the beginnig at least. I'll get some Bomberman and Dungeon Explorer games for game night, too.

* thread is for discussing favorites, not for asking for teh ROMs.

Never heard of Super Raiden, I'll have to check that out.

@ Kid Panda - Seems like a safe, and perfectly rational, idea. Don't deny the SSDS3 your presence, just deny it your essence.

I wont even use an SD card, I'm leaving my SD3 in the box.

If that's all you wanted I would have sold you my box, complete with damp towel replacement.

Never had a duo, but I did have lots of pcengine hucards back in the day. I played Dracula x on emulator but the one I wanna play the most is lords of thunder. NEC sent me a promo VHS and the focus of it was how great this game was and why I should buy a Turbo Duo. I watched it several times but just never pulled the trigger as in the US I could see the system was circling the drain here. Regardless of how good or bad it is I have to give it a solid play through. Other games I wanna check out are forgotten worlds and strider to see how those ports compare. I thought I wanted to play ninja warriors but I assumed it was going to be like the megacd release and after a quick vid I think I will drop that one :-)

Strider is absolute trash sadly. Forgotten Worlds is awesome though.

Panda speaks the truth. Strider looks okay if you're watching it, but actually playing it is pretty horrible. Play it on emulator, Genesis, or PS1 instead.

Great thread idea! The one thing I love most about flashcarts is loading a full rom set and discovering new games which I've never owned, but since it's not possible to have all CD games it's great to have some recommendations from other users.

Here are a few CD games I used to enjoy on my Duo-R:

-Dragon Ball Z: it takes a while to get used to the controls, but it plays somewhat like Legends on the Saturn
-Dynastic Hero: This is basically Wonderboy in Monster World
-Ranma 1/2: Ok beat 'em up with a bit of crappy controls and tins of good cut scenes for fans of the anime
-Ranma 1/2 Dato Ganso Musabetsu: same as above, but a 1 on 1 fighter
-Valis III & IV: great classic hack n slash games
-Rally Championship: Ok racer in the vein of Thrash Rally
-Lemmings: nothing special about this port, except for the enhanced music
-Puyo Puyo CD: a classic
-Advanced VG: OK 1 on 1 fighter with a great soundtrack and too much fan service
-Dracula X: Obviously... never got to finish it with Richter, just with Maria

When I initially looked at this thread... i thought it wasn't "right" as it were...

It's not really SD 3 related... more like gameplay... and of course you're all talking about loading "thingies" onto a SD card...

I was persuaded otherwise... and the thread stayed here...

However, This made me feel that maybe I'm not the best mod to look after such things... You guys need a better pair of eyes for this and so I am considering moving this forum out and giving it a dedicated mod... One with less "baggage"...

xROTx

PS. Carry on... ignore me really... just thinking out loud...

GnG will only work if you plug the SSDS3 into a Supergrafx console. Pretty cool list, I'm gonna have to google alot of those titles to see what they're like.

@Rot - if the thread needs moving, move it. Just thought it'd be nice to open up discussion about the device that wouldn't clutter up the already lengthy main thread.

I'm a huge fan of Military Madness on turbochip (ported from X68000), also known as Nectaris on HuCard. Neo Nectaris on Super CD Rom is great too. Nice little turn-based military strategy game similar to Advance Wars or Famicom Wars. Easy to get into, and quick gameplay. Really nice soundtrack too, as a lot of the X68k games (and their ports) had.

I'm going to have to add Image Fight I & II to the list. Also: How come nobody told me there was a sequel to Dragon Spirit on the PCE?

After I spend a bit of time with the games I've already listed, I'll have to give the Wonderboy series a go.

I've played Wonderboy and Adventure Island, and spent a little time on Dragon's Trap on the Wii Virtual Console, but no dedicated time to the whole series.

Dragon's Trap/Curse is one of the best games on the system for sure. The Switch game is pretty boss too.

I actually just finished it today on switch. Great game for sure. I just assumed they were just on old Sega systems I’ll have to check out the PCE ports now.

Sooooo... despite my 'keep it compact' mentality, I've still managed to throw over eighty HuCard games into a preperatory folder.

Also: I completely forgot about Turrican. Can't wait to play it again. That game is tits.

Just throw them all on there. The entire HuCard library takes up almost no space. Just fight the urge to do constant game swaps. :)

There are actually several Sega games on PCE, often better than Sega's own ports at the time. Outrun, Afterburner 2, and Space Harrier PCE shit all over the Genesis games.

yeah but the PCE port of Shinobi couldn't even beat the SMS version

therefore
SMS > PCE > Genesis

science.

I pulled the most recent build of the smokemonster hucard library download off archive.org and from there starting downloading ISOs of the CDs I had back in the later 90s. That dump eats up just over a half gigabyte. But it does have some duplicates plus dupes with english patched into various JRPGs, adventures, etc too making them playable.
