I heard that some games that went from cart to CD might have had some stuff removed to help it fit on CD, is there anything that is cut out of Any Metal Slug game? I'm looking to buy one, but if they are EXACTLY the same i'm gonna get the CD, unless someone recommends the cart instead.

Metal Slug on CD is NOT exactly the same of the cartridge version...
Cd is missing some frames of animations and, mostly, has less detailed backgrounds...
If you want it perfect, you must get it on cart (AES or MVS)...

A big italian collector and also a member of these boards (Gemant) caught on tape a complete play session (from start to the end) of Metal Slug in the arcades (MVS) and at home (CD)...
Watching the tapes, he discovered more than 110 graphical differences (little ones and big ones) between the two formats...

Almost all high-meg games have cuts in the CD version. Other great example is Last Blade 2 with a little bit smaller characters, missing animation frames and the big one: the fire stage ISN'T WAVED :)

that's weird, it must have been a loading time/playability issue because a CD can hold way more data than was ever put on any cart.

the CD revs of slug 1 and 2 (ESPECIALLY 2) are still better than the cartridge counterparts.

Many of the later neo games would actually be too big to fit on a CD even with minor cuts. As for the other stuff, RAM could be a problem as well.

Not even close. Don't forget that the CD's are bytes and the "megs" on a cart are bits.

But yep, RAM would be a problem.

Gemant, this is exactly the info I was looking for.

I have plans to make a comprehensive table about this and put it online.

Take a look at this thread started by me about these issues.

Could you be more specific about the actual differences between the CD and cart versions of the games you mentioned?

Anyway, thanks for the info. So far I found it quite hard to compile all these bits of info, and I'm always happy about a helping hand! :)

Well, I distinctly recall that LB1 on CD was missing a few animations... the only one that really leaps to mind is the energy flash on Lee's throw, but there were definitely others.
