Many people avoid buying the 138 in 1 because of the sub-pcb.

The 138 in 1 offers many games that 161 in 1 doesn't.
Here's the list of games that 138 has over the 161.

138-in-1 Has but 161 Doesn't
ART OF FIGHTING 3
CYBER-LIP
GHOST PILOTS
GHOSTLOP
GOAL! GOAL! GOAL!
KABUKI KLASH
LEAGUE BOWLING
METAL SLUG 5
NAM-1975
NINJA COMBAT
NINJA MASTER’S
POP’N BOUNCE
POWER SPIKES II
PUZZLED JOY JOY KID
SENGOKU 2
SHOCK TROOPERS
SUPER SIDEKICKS
TECMO WORLD 96
TWINKLE STAR SPRITES
WAKU WAKU 7
WORLD HEROES JET
WORLD HEROES PERFECT

So I've added a dipswitch for the Super 138 in 1, you can see pictures of it here:

If you are using a dipswitch you will need the game code.
REMEMBER that in the dipswich ON = 0 and OFF = 1.

So here it is:

Nice work.

For the noobs you might want to post a drawing of the dip switch circuit so it's easier to follow.

Thanks, Xian Xi :)

BTW, I've added a big thank you on the consolization thread.

The codes are wrong :/
I was following them and the first 6 worked so I jumped to a conclusion they might be exactly like the list that comes with the kit.
I'll have to test one by one to be sure.

I'll see if I can work something about for the dipswitch scheme.
It was done together with a very skilled and talented solderer nickname l_oliveira.

Wait, so there are hidden games on the 138 in 1?

What am I not understanding here?

Are there any extra releases on the 161 in 1?

Originally you needed the sub PCB to use the 138 since it handles the menu I think on the sub PCB. With this mod it removes the need for the sub CB but you will have to manually select the game using hard dips instead of via the software menu.

Ah.

I just want a Multicart with every game on it.

Especially Windjammers.

Totally agree. It's 2012, I can't believe full library carts don't exist yet.

Hell, if it's about making more money, I'd buy a separate cart that had the titles the 161 is missing;)

Yeah, I would like a cartridge with every game myself but the 161+138 is the closest you get.

And there's no hidden games on the 138 in 1, just select it via a dipswitch.

They wouldn't be able to keep selling new versions of the cart if it had all of them on it.

I am waiting for someone to release an Everdrive like product with a SD card slot on it.

Exactly, that's all they are doing. Just adding a few more games with each release and then taking some out.

With that system, they could eventually fit 256 titles in there.

did anything ever happen with messing around with those single SNK vs. CAPCOM all in one PCB's hacking

SNK_Vs_CAPCOM_PCB_LowRes.jpg

to allow for other games? I swear I recall Xian Xi or NTM saying something about 'em being the possible key to a full library

About 6 months ago, I bought a 138 in 1 cartridge with the intention of a doing dip switch mod. I ended up really busy these past months and had to put this on the backburner, but I finally got around to getting it up and running this week. Here are my findings.

Wiring: Here are the wires to the sub PCB, numbered to match the selection codes that were found by Fandangos

Ground: White
Voltage: Red
1: Green
2: Yellow
3: Brown
4: Blue
5: Orange
6: Black
7: Grey
8: Purple

At first, I simply wired it to an 8 position dip switch. When a switch was on, it would connect the signal line to Voltage. When it was off, it signal line was just not connected to anything. This sort of worked, but in many games, my cartridge would have graphical errors and crashed often. I learned that the multiplexer chip in the cartridge does not like having floating inputs.

My solution to this problem was to use SPDT switches. The on position still connects the signal line to Voltage, but the off position now connects the signal line to Ground instead of just leaving it floating. My cartridge now works perfectly, and the game selection codes match the ones Fandangos discovered.

This 138 in 1 really is a great companion cartridge to the 161 in 1. In addition to the list of games present on the 138 but absent on the 161, there are also some games which don't work properly on the 161 but work fine on the 138:

Problem games on the 161:
Samurai Shodown II - 161 music is missing some instruments, and there is crackling in the stage select music. It sounds fine on the 138
Garou Mark of the Wolves: 161 has beta version. Game ending text is messed up. Move timing is different. Kim Jae Hoon's TOP move crashes game. The one on 138 seems to be final version and works correctly.
Aero Fighters 3: 161 is unplayable. Bullets freeze on the screen and I've gotten stuck on unkillable bosses lol. It works fine on 138.
Last Blade 2: I've seen this one spontaneously reset on 161. I don't know what triggers it. I haven't tested on 138 so far.

Thanks to Fandangos for sharing this mod and figuring out all the game selection codes, and thanks to IDChappy for selling me a cart to experiment with.

Cool! So.... why exactly is bootleg-hacking under news & rumors?

In order to get rid of the floating, one would need to pull down all the lines, then pull them up via the switches. A small resistor network would do the trick.

I wonder if this same type of dip switch trickery could be applied to the 161 so that it would always boot as a single game. This would allow for saving of high scores (as the cartridge seems to reset the cabinet memory every time I change games). Has anyone though about this or even have an idea of where you would start (since the 161 does not have an external card)?

The multicart will wipe the backup RAM every time you choose a game from the menu, even if you choose the same game every single time.
