Esppuken, Eppuken or Reppuken?

Okay...in 4 games(FF1, FF3, RBFF, and KOF96), I hear Geese say "Esppuken" when doing his Single Reppuken move. Tonight I was arguing with some people that he says "Esppuken" in those games, while they say he is saying "Reppuken". I KNOW what I hear. After taking sound clips, I kind of hear "Eppuken", but I hear a hint of "s" in some of them. But I DO NOT hear "Rep..", I hear "Epp.." or "Es.." before the "..ppuken" in those 4 games. What do you hear? One guy I'm arguing with says theres a sound hiss of "re" before the "..eppuken" or "..esppuken". But, I don't hear it. He's saying its "re-EPPU-ken". I'm saying its "EPPU-ken" or "ESPPU-ken". Help me out here.

The move is called reppuken i think. But it may be pronounced otherwise.

It is Reppuken.

This word is build from "Retsu", "Fu" and "Ken".


I am not sure about the meaning of "Retsu", but I guess it means something like strong or devastating. "Fu" is Wind and "Ken" is fist or punch.

Wth...I just finished playing KOF96...I can CLEARLY hear the "E"! The "S" comes in once or twice...I don't "re" at all...

"L" and "R" are the same sound in Japanese.

I know what you mean.

There's a lot of lines that I mishear, and I think that honestly, the people that say otherwise must be mishearing them too.

example:
Blue Mary in 97/98
"Bangu"

no, seriously, this sounds like

"Fuck you"

because there's a "you" sound in it.

And then when you watch the Street Fighter Anime, Ryu's same sounds like "diyu"

Well, in my opinion. For some reason, many Japanese people have no clue what I'm saying when I tell them that Ryu sounds like "Diyu."

this arguement brings back horrible memories of fighting with friends saying "CHUN LI DOESENT FUCKING SAY SPINNING STAR KICK!"

That's because in KOF, she's saying "Bakyuun," which is Japanese onomatopeia for "bang."

Indeed, you are correct... but you did also hear "Hien Seppu Kon" when it's actually "Hien Shippuu Kyaku," too. ;)

reppuken is the word he says. he sas shinpuken when he does the move in mid air. the one that used to confuse me was the kaiser wave. but i figured it out first time i played 98. i always thought he said fire wave.

It's always been Reppuken. The aerial one is "Shippuken," by the way, not "Shinpuken."

And "Esppuken" is utterly meaningless. It's not a word, nor is there any natural means of forcing it to become one in Japanese.
