First off, I'm a sucker for weird memorabilia so this type of merchandise could be unknown to many of you. Well, so called shitajikis are some kind of pencil board with artwork from different game series. I've recently acquired a Last Blade shitajiki and I'm trying to find out more about these. Information is scarce on these even when googling this in Japanese.

What I've found out so far: There was a series by Gamest for Garou Densetsu 2 (should be 12pcs. in total).

There seems to be a series by Movic which consists of at least the bespoken Last Blade and King of Fighters 96. Haven't found more yet.

Does anyone know anything about these? Blackanese Ninja maybe? ;)

These are great.

Please give this thread a bump after you find more.

Thanks, will do! :)

Here are some (small) pictures from the Fatal Fury 2 shitajiki by Gamest

Another series by Banpresto for Fatal Fury Special. This one looks nice! (and allegedly with Krauser on the backside)

And a shitajiki from Fatal Fury 3. I don't know to which series/maker this one belongs.

What are these things made of? I can't tell from the pics if they are plastic or vinyl or just a poster paper material.

Sweet! Collect a bunch of them and make hi res scans of them. (or don't, but they could make some nice full size poster prints!)

Good question, are those Garoud Densetsu 2 motives excklusive? I'm not very fond of the different illustrators etc.

Like I pointed out information on shitajikis is scarce in general. So yeah, let's see what I can dig up ;)

Whoa!! Nice collection suicidekiller! :buttrock:

Loving all the Fatal Fury love!

Shitajiki are awesome and carry a lot of quality promo illustrations that even some of the artbooks can’t match! :buttrock:

Aside from some Battle Arena Toshinden stuff, I have a set of the Masami Obari Fatal Fury shitajiki from the second fatal fury tv special.

A lot of the official art would end up in the manual, various art books, etc but the higher resolution and quality make these stand out to me as standalone pieces of art on their own. A lot of exclusive promo illustrations also found their way on the phone cards but collecting them can be a pain since phone card collecting has been a thing in japan for decades now.

You rock for sharing these!

Regarding the art in the specific photos posted above, much of the art was used in the sega ports of the early fatal fury titles.

For comparison (and going in order), most of the art featured on the FF2 shitajiki was used in the genesis/megadrive port of FF2:

*This also applies to the shitajiki depicting the full cast as it is comprised of the individual character drawings used on the individual character pages in the FF2 genesis/megadrive manual:

The shitajiki featuring the kneeling Terry is interesting since the neogeo home cart used a version of the art sans the color and additional shading. However, the game gear FFS port features a B/W version of the art with the additional shading, etc.

Good stuff!

Thanks for clarifying BlackaneseNinja. I'll have some more of these posted soon hopefully :)

By the way, this is not my collection. Just wild pictures from the internet ;) I only have the Last Blade shitajiki for now (and some nice Cave ones).

Cheers

Oh ok awesome! I’m still glad you shared them. The artists employed by SNK produced a lot of awesome art but not all of it made it into the artbooks and guides of course. Gathering these in a thread gives us all a chance to see higher quality versions of the illustrations :buttrock: Definitely post more of these when you get em.

Cheers!

Found out more about the Banpresto set. They are called Jumbo Cards and contain various motives from FF1, FF2 and FFS. Probably 12 Cards in total. They are not exactly shitajiki, rather thick paper I guess. Backside features story elements. All in all a really nice set. Also features some art I haven't seen before yet (dat Jubei beach picture!! ^^)

Found some more Neo Geo related ones. I'd really love to obtain the KoF '95 one but the images were pulled from a Yahoo auction for 10,000 Yen which is quite steep imo.

Here's a scan of KoF '97 in case anyone's interested: https://filehorst.de/d/czExysuH

I don't know who made this, but looks nice:

I bought something similar to these back in 1998-1999. It was a clear plastic folder with Last Blade characters on it. It was printed on both sides with the top and right hand side open so you could but papers inside. I gave it to a friend years ago. I'll have to see if he still has it.

Yep, these are called 'clear file' in Japan and there are a lot of SNK related ones too.
