Well, if you read this thread you actually know where all the KOF2002 news now floating around were first announced.
Yet, most of the news posted by the MagicBox are someway not correct or uncomplete, thus I try to make someway the stuff more clear.
I've investigated more and more with my sources, and now I come to edit the whole post to add details, corrections, and so on.
Prior to read the thing, please know and undestand that:
What I posted and post come from a source which is someway related to my job. Actually I work in the anime industry, for an Italian company related to a Japanese-based one.
What I've discoverd is highly confidential, and quite confirmed. I may have mispelled some names and details anyway.
I've not much info about the games itself, in terms of system and gamplay. What I saw were art and draft.
Also, as the game is not that far in coding, lots of thing can still be scrapped for production problems.
You may say what I posted is the 'first approved outiline' for the game.
Usually when a game is to be produced, creator came up with a lot of ideas and sketches designs, but almost every time something doen not arrive to
concretization, for time or money restrictions, you know.
I thought the private forum of a website would not have such a visibility but I was obviously wrong.
***Story:
The story took up just right following the KOF2001 one. Nests collapsed, but its roots still exist. Igniz in fact had a brother (NOTE: the one he talked about in Heros Team KOF2001 ending, who was said to possess power equal to Igniz). Anyway the hosts of the tournament are Misty, the blonde female who was at Igniz's side in KOF2001 and Long/Ron, Lin former master. The story emphasize on Chine, mistic power and so on. VERY DIFFERENT atmosphere from 99/2001 techno style, everything is more 'mystical' this year. Long and Misty seems to be after the 'Dragon Spirit' which is contained in Kensou/Bao and they like to fully awake it in order to seize that and control the world.
***New team rooster is:
*Hizoku Team:
Lin, Sai, Ran, Chitto
This is formed by Lin and his three fellow we saw in KOF2001 (the victory pose of Lin you can get by defeating Nests Team meber). Sai is the big red-skinned guy with the deformed head marked with the Tao sign. He's mostly a grappler but uses ESP powers. Ran is the almost naked black-haired sexy gal, who use some flame power out of her feet. CHitto is the weird little child, who seems to be Boa's rival, using very strong ESP/psycho power inclung teleports attacks.
Th story of the team is mostly about the Hizoku loyal member seeking for revenge against the traitor master Long/Ron.
*Botsu Team:
Blaze, Koji Botsu, Maya Botsu, Puma
This is the new team of the game, the Botsu family is a Japan old family which is rival to Lin's Hizoku clan and also involved to the Dragon Spirit, you can see thir sketch in KOF2001 mook, even if preliminary. They're look is quite trendy, metropolitan and -er- weird. Blaze (battle name, she's a 'Botsu' too) is a sexy female dressed with a tight black latex full body suit and a violet trenchcoat over that. She uses two blades in fighting, which are put on her hands. Koji is a Kyo-like character, but seem younger and navier. Maya is a young 'cute' female with a smart look, short hair and wear aviator glasses on her head. Puma (battle name, just as for Blaze) is a big wrestler-like characters, he has felin ear nad I think he wears a kind of mask. These character were originally designed for KOF2001, but lately discarded. The family name 'botsu' came for the 'botsu' kanji used to mark as 'unapproved' discarded designs.
*Psycho Soldier Team:
Athena Asamiya, Sie Kensou, Bao, Chin Gentsai
Nothing new here, Athena will be redrawn again, but still nothing new. Kensou has full Psycho Power returned now, not only the Psycho Ball.
*Burning Team:
K', Maxima, Whip, Kula
Pretty obvious after KOF2001. Kula will be redraw, no other change announced. K' and Kula seems to be in affair now. There's something in their past, a debt K' has to pay to Kula. Thus, K' is helping Kula in avenging Foxy and the team is hunting for K9999.
* Ex-Nest Team:
K9999, Angel, Diana, Misty
After the assassination of Foxy, K9999 and his 'sexual slave' Angel are now the bosses of what Nests was. The Team is now hunting for the brother of the old boss Igniz, who is said to be a menace for them. Diana come to spy K9999 moves and pretend to be loyal to him, while she is still with Kula (she remitted the little one in K' hands for this mission). Misty is a new female character. She is young, busty, green haired lady with a 'tough&nasty' look. She remainds me Kaori from Akira, and she's dressed up pretty much like a biker (a red suit which recall me Kaneda's from Akira too). Diana fight with a rapier like Foxy did. Strangely enough, Misty has the very same name of the blonde NEsts executive which is the badass toghether with Long. I dont know if both names are actyally spelled 'Misty', because I just found kana writings. It is possible the two names will have different writing for same pronunciation. Anyway, my guess is the fighter here is a clone of the blonde gal, or maybe just the contrary. [NOTE: Whoa! Sure Brezza want to portray K9999 as manly anti-hero, another year a male with three gal in a team]
* Japan Team:
Kyo Kusanagi, Benimaru Nikaido, Goro Daimon, Moe Habana
Does Eolith plans to keep NeoBlood in the official KOF continuity? I hope not, but is seems so. Anyway Moe is introduced by Kyo, and seems to be realted to Kyo/Iori old rivalry. Anyway the Team entering in the Tournament is directed by Moe herself, who also managed to cohopt both Nikaido and Daimon once again. Goro is now redraw and fight with his complete judo suit. Benimaru is also redrawn and has its hair down.
* Saishu Team
Saishu Kusanagi, Shingo Yabuki, Sho Kirishima, Chizuru Kagura
Does Saishu made up this thing? We knew from 2001 Japan ending he was to train Shingo. The same is with Sho (or spell it Syo, who actually was just a Kyo prototype, also used as an 'extra striker' in KOF99evo and KOF2000). The Kagura presence lead me to think all this relates to the Dragon Spirit as well. A new 'holy/devilish' power as the Orochi one to be sealed off? Anyway, both Kagura and Saishu designs seems totally as they were in KOF98, thus I think their sprites will be almost totally ripped.
* Ryuuko no Ken team:
Ryo Sakazaki, Robert Garcia, Yuri Sakazaki, Takuma Sakazaki
Same as 2001. Ryo has a winpose in which a young Marco Rodriguez (MotW) enter in the screen. Takuma has be redrawn and fight with naked chest as he was in AOF2. The story: looking for new recruits for their dojo, the Sakazaki family wants again to make Kyokugenryu Fighiting Style famous around the world. Thy enter the tournament for 'advertisign reason', also taking with them the best one among Ryo's disciples, Marco.
* Garou Densetsu Team:
Same as it was back in '99, with Mai's back in place of Mary, Terry will appears in his MotW outfit, which I say is logical after Rock appareance in KOF2001. In the story they're to know something about Rock family... VERY INTERESTING... does this relate to Ignzi family?
* South Korean Team
Kim Kapwahn, Chang Koehan Choi Bongue, Bae Dal
Bae Dal is tha prototype whe saw as a KOF2000 extra stricker. Story: when Jhun exit the hospital after KOF2001 tournament, he and Kib totally broke-up. Kim said Jhun was jealous. To prve his fighitng skills are better than Kim's, Jhun actually 'kidnap' the two Kim's sons to train them himself. May Lee follow Jhun becuase she loves children very much and thinks Kim's sons are better than their father and his 'frineds' Chang and Choi. Kim recruit his fellow Bae Dal to 'rescue' his sons by entering the tournament.
* New Korean Team
Jooh Hoon, Kim Dong Hwang, Kin Jae Hoon, May Lee
Now this is interesting. I see Eolith want to emphasise the Korean part in the rooster. Joon Hoon was already said to be influent in Kim's sons education, now we see the why. The two sons will appear in very juvenile image, but the already has fire and lighting power as in MotW.
* Heroine Team
King, Blue Mary, Kasumi Todo, Hinako Shijo
Oh well, old character, new combination. Story: King is afert Ryo, Mary is after Terry. Kasumi still is lloking for 'revegne' against the Sakazaki family. Hinako joins the party just for hype.
* Ikari Team
Same as 2001. In the story, they're after Whip and Nests remaining.
* Southtown Team
Rick Strow, Li Xian Fei, Billy Kane, Tsugumi Sendo
Have I spelled correct the first name? He's the guy from RB2 anyway. Again, this is interesting. I see Brezza is getting a lot of characters from side games, like Tsugumi Sendo (from Wild Ambition) and prototypes... are they trying to get bargains in creating new designs?). Billy seems identical to his former KOF08 incarnation, I guess it will be another rip-offed sprite. Story: this is an avanging team against the Bogard brother.
* Yagami Team
Same as 2001
Seth is leading reserch to find out about what remains of Nests. IOri will appear in a new outfit, same pats, same shirt, different jaket (a long one, as the KOF2000 another striker).
Bosses confirmed till now:
1) Long/Ron (su-bboss)
2) [Unknow] Final boss, Igniz's brother
I dunno if Misty (the blonde one) will also fight. As a striker maybe?
About the pollrecently issued by Eolith: I guess the plan to alter this 'first draft' by adding a team by popular demand eventually removing another one. I do not think all these teams will arrive to the final stage of production.
Little is know about the new fighting system. Striker and 'ratio' system will remains for sure. A new 'double charging' system is annuced for the power bar, but I don't now in what that consist.
I will keep informed as (if) I discover more.
