I was reading Gamefaq's reviews of metal slug 3 and then I read something familiar...

I think the guy at gamefaqs is bullshit lie

because the MS3 was written by Grey Nye and MS2 by Kazuya at www.neogeolife.com, while the other two were supposedly written by one guy at GameFaqs

Another reason its a bullshit lie, is because they were submitted to GameFaqs on 9-17-03 and I could have sworn those reviews were on Kazuya's way back in April

how sad is to register in a website and send reviews of other people...

even if you report it, they won't remove it

they need more people to run that site

More reasons why GameFAQs sucks ass.

Someone should hack that site and destroy it. It's gone so far downhill in 5 years its sad.

Thanks for posting about this. Those reviews are both from my site, and they were posted years ago - you can tell they were written a long time ago because the ones written by me were actually pretty poor compared to newer reviews that I have done more recently. The fact that he has also ripped off one of Gregs reviews that he submitted to my site also makes me quite mad, so I will try to report this to gamefaqs if I can. I don't know if they will actually do anything, but I'm still gonna try.

On closer inspection, it seems that he ripped all of the Metal Slug reviews either from my site or from the review section at this site. I sent an email to gamefaqs, hopefully he will take a look at it soon, although it may take a while.

2 of the reviews he ripped off were by Dan Elektro btw - doesn't he work for GamePro? I'm sure he'd be VERY pleased to see this.

This is funny. Usually when people actively do reviews, they have a set style that varies little. Look at his % totals at the end of Marvel vs Capcom, then look at Metal Slug where it then goes to a 10 point system on the headers, then look at Mega Man Battle Network where it's all at the end on a 10 point system, then Unreal Tournament is just done without any sort of grading system with several big paragraphs, and then RuneScape is done ala Fran style with a sentence or two, then a break.

I guess they don't teach anything in schools about plagiarism anymore. My god what is so hard about writing your own fucking review. What a jackass.

I was just talking with Deuce (SSIV & Last Blade faqs) about how people just pump out faqs to boost their gamefaqs rep. It's the lamest thing to develop from the scene. There was a time when people would make a faq because they were genuinely in love with a game. Now they do it to boost their rating. They include bloated disclaimers and fluff and low content.

It starts with people like Chris Mullins, running free to xerox parts of his faqs onto each other and get away with borrowing info and not creditting people. That's step one.

Then they allow shit reviews like Glucose Joes to appear - reviews that are obviously derived not from the game but from the roms.

Then they let their boards get overrun by idiots.

In the end, I hope gamefaqs gets a major rehauling. It's a piece of shit now.

I think most of Glucose Joe's reviews were taken down a few years back.

Hmmn. Good. I still don't go there anymore. The place pisses me off.

Yeah Glucose Joe's reviews disappeared ages ago. I'm not 100% sure why, but I never did care for them much myself as he seemed to come off as a guy that started playing Neo games last week and saw Fatal Fury 1 and thought "WTF is this crap???".

EvilWasabi: I totally agree with you about people that just write an FAQ to boost their gamefaqs rating. I have done tons of reviews because that's what I enjoy doing, but I've only ever written 2 FAQ's, and that was because I genuinely thought that mine would have info that others didn't have and that it would help people. For example the Matrimelee lyrics guide, but even in that I gave credit to the main person that did the work with translation (tsukaesugi).

Too many people do stuff now for recognition rather than plain and simple love for what they are doing. The problem with gamefaqs now is not to do with the owner of the site, more to do with the fact that everyone knows about the place now and it has become very mainstream... as soon as you attract that kind of crowd, and as soon as a place has THAT many people visiting it each day, you are going to get this kind of problem. Unfortunately there isn't a great deal you can do about it

I am still not gonna let this go until those reviews get removed however. I don't balme gamefaqs owner, but I will be pissed if he doesn't respond to my email in the next week - although he runs the site on his own it is still his responsibility to look after this kind of thing. I don't think the other site owners whose reviews he ripped off would be too happy about this either...
