Buying AES console -- when do I get my Executive Washroom key?

Well, I finally found a Yahoo! Japan auction for an AES + games package that I liked the looks of, so I decided to take the plunge and start my AES collection. Now that I'm about 10-days-shipping-time away from becoming a real NEO fan and not just a little wooden boy, I was wondering when I could expect to be notified of the benefits package to which I am now privy (y'know, the Inner Circle bonuses that make it so easy to drop hundreds or even thousands on a single game without flinching). For the time being, at least, could someone point me in the direction of the AES Owners' Complimentary Hooker Lounge and Pizza Buffet? Huh? What do you mean "what am I talking about?" Oh, come on -- there's no free hookers? Are you serious? No, really, there's got to at least be, like, a coupon good for 10% off lapdances at the topless club of my choice, right? "No?" But... but I just spent.... Fuck.:(

Anyway, here's the auction that caught my eye:
saitoh197825-img600x450-1064236816dsc00220.jpg

AES console with box, packing materials, manual (w/plastic bag), cables, pack-in memory card (w/little box), pack-in joystick, 2nd joystick w/box...
saitoh197825-img600x450-1064236844dsc00221.jpg

...and 9 games (all w/cases, manuals, and plastic bags):
saitoh197825-img450x600-1064236856dsc00222.jpg

Ryuuko no Ken [AoF], Ryuuko no Ken 2 [AoF2], Fire Suplex [3 Count Bout]
Garou Densetsu [FF], Garou Densetsu SPECIAL [FF SP], The King of Fighters '94
Samurai Spirits [Samurai Shodown], Shin SamSpi [SamSho II], SamSpi Zankurou Musouken [SamSho III]

Closing price on the auction was 29,500 yen ($263.91 -- damn the U.S.$ really sucks right now...). So, before the cost of shipping to my friend in Japan (and then, from him to me) plays into it, I figure I spent 10,000 yen ($89.46) on a console w/2 joysticks and a memory card, making the games about 2166.67 yen ($19.38) each. No rare items in this lot, to be sure, but everything looks to be well cared for and complete -- I think I'll be happy with it (just hoping the owner wasn't a smoker...).

About 12 years ago, the AES came to the attention of a friend of mine, who jokingly suggested we get one. I could barely afford my car payment at the time, let alone a console and game cartridges which -- back in 1991 -- would've cost about a car payment each.

In 1998, I started slowly picking up NEO CD games here and there, figuring that I'd eventually get a used CD-Z so I'd better grab a few limited edition packages while I could (KOF'98 in wooden box, AoF3 boxed edition, etc.). Finally got a CD-Z around 2000 or so, and started actively picking up CD games for it during the last 10 months. Via a couple of decent collections being sold on Yahoo! Japan, I've now got just over half the games in the CD library. Hopefully, I'll be able to complete the collection by next summer.

'Round about this same time, I made a couple of purchases of MVS games (3 loose, and 5 kits). I'd had a JAMMA cab since 1995, and I planned on eventually picking up an MVS motherboard (I'm still planning to...). Hopefully, I'll find a nice deal on a motherboard and a few more kits when I head back to Japan for New Year's vacation at the end of December.

The NEO-GEO Pocket Color was the first NEO "console" I ever owned -- the release of KOF R-2 in early 1999 prompted me to pick one up. My Pocket collection had, until recently, consisted almost entirely of the fighting game titles available for the system (plus CF, CF2, and KOF Battle de Paradise). Managed to score a nearly complete collection of Pocket software (w/boxes & manuals) on Yahoo! Japan at the beginning of the month, so I'm almost done with Pocket shopping (now I just have to find a way to get some free time to actually play the games...). The Pocket seller also had an auction going at the same time for a nearly complete NEO CD collection -- if I could have afforded both auctions, I'd be just about done with CD hunting, too.

Not a bad week for me on Yahoo! Japan. In addition to the AES lot, I also managed to grab a copy of Choujin Gakuen Gowcaizer Hybrid Comic Matrix (a Gowcaizer manga anthology I've been after for the last 8 years) for 1100 yen, a stack of 205 barcode battler cards featuring the cast of Garou Densetsu (released in early 1992, iirc) for 810 yen, and a Virtua Fighter Mini Kid's Gear handheld (w/box, manual, cartridge, strap, and plastic bags) for 1000 yen.

Now it's back to bed for a few more hours, and dreams of the AES Owners' Complimentary Hooker Lounge and Pizza Buffet -- NEO on a big screen, a slice in one hand, and a greasy hooter in the other!

You forgot sept 2001 meet up with Phil and Trey at Animefest and Played Neo rekindeling my love for the system :)

Cool on Yahoo Japan. I have been noticing the pricing for awhile now. Even watching how people her buy from Yahoo japan and then resale on the Sale site for Big Profit. But he it is america right :) Although I got into a few bid wars as well but no regrets

I recently picked up ~14 Neo Geo Freak Mags and some misc stuff in auction for $9. even with fees it was under $20. now though shipping to the US

That is a great deal for a system though in that shape. Welcome to the NGH world

BTW you find that VFG CD yet :)

While I'd been playing NEO games since the MVS' debut -- and collecting NEO fighting game memorabilia, books, and soundtracks for 9 years -- it wasn't until I met you and Nickthfury at AnimeFEST! 2001 that I realized the size and dedication of the fanbase the NEO had garnered here in the U.S. (in particular, the existence of this website). I still look back fondly on the hours of Dodgeball, Ninja Masters, and friendly conversation Matsuda-san and I were able to spend with you guys that last day of the convention. Very much looking forward to the possibility of seeing you guys again at A-Kon 2004.

Thanks! After biding my time and watching the price ranges on a variety of NGH console + carts auctions for the last several months, I thought this one looked like I might be able to get a good deal. Glad to have my guess validated by one as into the NEO as yourself.

Actually, yes! I just recently ran across a box of CDs in which I'd tucked away the Gowcaizer Hybrid Vocal Collection CD I picked up for you. Check your email and let me know if I still have your correct mailing addy -- I'll try to get it sent to you this week.

The actual advantage is that your penis will increase in size.

That's a charming little tale. Makes me yearn for another Briggs photo story too.

And you can laugh at all the people with smaller penises (oops, I mean MVS/NeoCD/Ports, YES PORTS are for smaller penis folks).

So exactly how do you buy from yahoo japan??? Sounds like there are some good deals to be found, and I only buy Japanese AES carts as they are usually more in my price range.

"How about a warm glass of shut the hell up!"

ha ha, I like that quote.

Anyway, welcome to the Neo Geo AES world, I too am a first timer. Previously I had a shitty converted 1 slot cab I had to sell when I graduated from college.

Alot of folks use a bidding service, like Rinkya. I cheat by having a Japanese friend of mine bid on items, take delivery, and then ship them to me via EMS (fortunately for me, he's got a good job and a good degree of patience when it comes to his barbaric American friends :p ).

I was having a spot of trouble with my email provider the other day, so I wasn't able to send you an email right away. I think I was also using an old email addy. Anyway, I resent the email to the address you've provided above.

Yeah, one of these days I hope to get my website back online -- it was getting close to cataloging about half of my collection when I took it down. It'd be nice if I could get things straightened up around here so I could take some photos for the Collections Page.

Shit -- that's right! I forgot all about getting to lord it over all of the wanna-be's and poser-fans that haven't got an AES because they've opted for other, less important things like food and shelter (bah!). Excellent -- at last I can become the insufferably smug bastard my friends and family always knew I was!:D

Really, I'm just looking forward to the increase in penis size.

Thanks for the link, I'm going to do that right now.

Stuck here at work til 4pm (it's 1:15 now), and I just got a call from home letting me know that the EMS parcel containing my AES has arrived. This is gonna be a long 3 hours...:(

On the other hand, the crotch of my trousers is fitting more snugly already.:D

Somehow managed to make it thru the rest of the workday without going nuts with anticipation. Got home and tore into the EMS parcels to find that everything was in absolutely immaculate condition. While the second, separate joystick is used, the AES console and the pack-in joystick are new / never used! There's nothing that can quite compare to unpacking a 7- to 8-year-old piece of hardware and having the smell of NEW plastic hit you full in the face -- DELICIOUS.:drool_2:

The games are in fantastic shape, too. Either the seller never played them, or he went to great pains to prep and clean them for sale -- not a single fingerprint on any of them.

The "Virtua Fighter Mini" Kid's Gear I won was also in superb condition. The box had a bit of wear here and there, but the contents (console, cartridge, link cable, manual, and misc. papers) were all good-as-new, right down to the plastic bags each piece was originally packed in. I've been wanting to pick up a Game Gear for some time now (I just love oversized handhelds with adjustable-brightness backlighting:D ), so now it looks like I've got another system to start collecting for.

I thought some of you might like to see the Garou Densetsu barcode battler cards, while the seller still had the images online:

Simply stoked about the NEO loot that arrived today. The AES console is in such beautiful condition -- I just like to sit and look at it. Really looking forward to picking up more games for it later on. Hoping to maintain some modicum of self-control financially, but right now I'm feeling like this:

Congrats you traitor!

The problem with a new system is that every scratch on the AES will be from you!

Damn my penis is shrinking.

Hides face in shame.:crying:
