Gamecart CRC Check -custom-

I got my unibios today for my mv1t. I have this metal slug 3 cart that doesnt work properly that I need to return to the seller. One of the audio channels doesn't seem to play. Its noticeable that one of the instruments or whatever in the songs doesnt play. Got it off ebay.. any way I figured i'd test it any way for shits and giggles. Any way this was the results

so what's the verdict on this? its worth noting when I opened these up they were covered in some sticky substance (probably soda) that i cleaned off in distilled water and dishsoap. Problems still persisted.

Those pins look dirty as fuck. Have you tried cleaning them?

yea ive cleaned them multiple times. cleaned the pins with alcohol and like i mentioned i cleaned the entire pcbs in distilled water, dish soap and used a toothbrush. i think i took that pic before i did all the cleaning.

You'll need something stronger to clean those then. Try some Deoxit. With the condition of those pins I wouldn't expect the cart to work properly at all.

yea ill pick some up. should I just get the stuff in the spray can? im returning this cart back to the seller any way though. i'll probably only buy stuff off of here from now on. I havent had very good results on ebay so far.

Yeah, that's what I use. It doesn't take much, one can will last you forever probably.

The CRC check only relates to the P ROMs - so you know the core game code is OK, but it doesn't test other ROMs, like M and V used for music and sound. As others have said - it looks like it really needs a clean. IPA is never enough on its own, I always use IPA, then a pencil eraser, then wipe down with IPA again.

IIRC "custom" means that romset hasnt been added to the internal database in the UniBios yet. So it cant really tell you if their bad or not.

As far as the sticky residue, it was more than likely just left over flux from the manufacturing process. I've cleaned every single one of my carts and the PCBs are always atleast slightly sticky.

yea I tried water + dishsoap and IPA. I had a fiberglass eraser but I seemed to have misplaced it. Ive got some dexoit coming in the mail so we'll see what happens with that stuff. i'll try giving the contacts a buff with an eraser as well.

thanks for the explanation. I dunno about the sticky stuff being just left over flux. This thing was REALLY sticky. Only had it on 1 side of 1 board and it could stick to my my hand and stay there on its own. Would flux really be that sticky and be all over the 1 side of the pcb?

That is not right, custom means the game uses a known custom banking system so the crc is not retrieved.
