A look back at your collection. What would you change?

Needed way more focus - I have so many crap filler games that I could've skipped in favor of more enjoyable titles that sell for a pretty penny nowadays.

Shouldn't have been so cheap. Saying no to Nintendo 64DDs, AES and PC Engine games in Japan with the idea that patience will lead me to them at cheaper prices. That never happened.

Other than that, no real regrets. I was good at only selling things I knew I would truly never miss, and so far I haven't regretted anything I let go of. Mostly good times collecting and playing the majority of my collection.

I regret selling my Saturn collection about 6 years ago... had about 120 games which I had been collecting since launch and needed $$. Seeing the prices these days for some of these games makes me realize i'll never get a complete collection now.

Can't say I regret or would change much, strangely I do regret selling my 32X CD version of Night Trap, it's the only game I bought BITD that I ever sold. I guess I also regret selling Money Puzzle Exchanger, TSS, NOS Sengoku 3 kit and my NOS Pochi and Nyaa kit.

I had an issue maybe 8 years ago where my engine went bad in my car, and I sold off a huge chunk of my collection, which I regret so much. I was a huge turbo collector, and had a near complete boxed english set. Had dyanstic hero, magical chase with manual, and every single one of the rare games that are of value now. Then there was the nes/snes/ and genny stuff. Again all the best games, that were flea market pickups back in the day. Little Sampson, Flintstones, Hagane, Crusader of Centy, Keio Flying Squadron. So much shit that is now worth a small fortune.

When I sold most of my stuff, which was a few hundred games, I raised about $7000.00 to replace the engine in my car. The really sad part is now that just a few of those turbo games are worth that now. I literally sold about 70 of the most sought after nes games, and about the same for snes, and genny. Probably about 40 boxed hu-cards, and close to that many CD games. Then there was snatcher, shining force cd, popful mail, etc...

If I knew then what I know now, I would have said fuck the car, and bought a nice used truck, or muscle car.

Thankfully though I saved most my MVS carts. Which I paid on average $15-$30 each for. I think the most expensive MVS game I purchased was Pulstar for like $120.00, and mark of the wolves for $60.00, but other than that they were super cheap titles, that now command on average quadruple what I paid if not more.

It's really hard to complain though. Even though I dumped my stuff, I only paid $120.00 for my magical chase with manual, and about the same for dynastic hero. Sold those for $675.00 each, and after my samurai V special ebay sale last year, which I paid $220.00 for and sold for exactly $1000.00 profit after fees, I think I haven't really paid much at all for my game collection, which is still pretty nice.

I learned my lesson though. I'm never selling games I truly love again unless they too high in value to justify owning. Like in the thousands. My DS stuff is staying in my hands, because I see that console being as collectible as the NES in the future. It was a great system that was incredibly popular, and will have a loyal fan base of collectors. Same for the PSP, except it will be more like the turbo, acting as an ugly stepchild that people don't realize how damn good it is till 15 years have lapsed, and shit gets crazy.

Not much. This happens all the time in magic.
Sold a card that was worth $5 back then and now it's worth $200. I learned to just let things go.

Nothing. I'm glad all of my shit is gone now bar mvs and a few odd bits and bobs. I'm even feeling like what little I have left needs to be slimmed somewhat.

I feel that way about my Saturn stuff. But when I think about selling it, I think of the asshole that will buy it, and then prolly flip it.

I'd rather keep it and play it sparingly then see someone piece it out and jack up the prices.

I'm keeping it out of spite.

I still have every video game I've ever purchased, except Keith Courage in Alpha Zones for the TG16 (and no great loss there). My only regret is that I didn't start going to the local GameStop sooner as I could have scooped up even more games on the cheap. I don't know why, but I never set foot in the place until years after it had opened (same thing when we got a Walmart too--I didn't go in there until two years after it had been open for business). Maybe I was still bitter about them buying out Funcoland or something, I dunno.

Exactly ******* this. I was going to say $2 multi-lands worth $400 now, and yes, WE HAD STACKS of them :hammer:

It sucks, but it is just money, and I prefer to look back on the fun times with the hobby.

As for games, I did sell a few 'keepers" that I regret a little, Hyper Duel Saturn, YuYu Hakusho MD, Panzer Dragoon Saga.. not too many though.

I sold off all my 360 CAVE LE's which were nice, but felt redundant after getting the box set collection which takes up way less shelf space.

I obviously wish I had bought more PCBs when I started getting seriously into playing shmups around 2001, but I did manage to get most of my favorites before this last era of price-jacking-profiteering-reseller-shelf-queen take over.

Not too much except maybe get into some of the more obscure Japanese consoles/computers i.e. FM Towns Marty, X68000, MSX2, before the prices on the hardware and games skyrocketed like everything else out there.

Living in the UK all my life and always being into games, I wish I hadn't (in theory) wasted my money on buying/collecting the PAL versions of all those games, years ago for systems like the PS1, N64 & Saturn. I wish I'd educated myself more on importing and just gone straight for the US/JPN versions instead using an import console.

I've been playing catch-up with certain consoles ever since, 'replacing' my 50hz versions with the superior NTSC/60Hz variant (usually Japanese). This sentiment applies ESPECIALLY to my PS1. At least with the Saturn, certain games that weren't optimised can be forced in 60hz without issue (i.e. Capcom games for example).

On the flip side, all the PAL stuff I've acquired (very oddly) is somewhat very collectable and has high prices associated with them. For example, I've got all the PAL Capcom VS titles for PS1, and they're worth quite a bit. But they're crippled by 50hz and are not as good as the Saturn/DC versions which are actually cheaper!

Oh, I also wish I hadn't have been redundant/out of work when Big_Al and Steven_K were selling a load of AES titles 2 years ago. Blazing Star went numerous times(!) in Steve's thread for £500 - £600 a copy and a copy of Windjammers sold for £160!!! Big_Al sold a Mutation Nation (JP) for like £90 as well, IIRC. I remember this shit. It scars me...

I dont regret any of it. I had a huge collection a few years ago, I started keeping and buying old games back when the SNES launched and Ive steadily been selling it off for one reason or another the last 6 years. It small and streamlined now and I haven't kept any thing just for sake of value I only keep what ill play or maybe received as a gift. Dont get me wrong I like physical copies for things I purchase over Digital but Ive also been enjoying emulation since 94. I am enjoying picking up MVS carts here and there but one day ill probably be down to just a candy cab with a multiboard or MAME and a dreamcast with burned disks.

Would have bought an excellent condition MS1 AES JP in 2012 for 2600 Euros. Biggest mistake I ever made. I'll never get that title now and there goes my complete AES JP MS series. Also regret not buying ROTD. It was cheap at NeoStore for a bit.
