I had an issue maybe 8 years ago where my engine went bad in my car, and I sold off a huge chunk of my collection, which I regret so much. I was a huge turbo collector, and had a near complete boxed english set. Had dyanstic hero, magical chase with manual, and every single one of the rare games that are of value now. Then there was the nes/snes/ and genny stuff. Again all the best games, that were flea market pickups back in the day. Little Sampson, Flintstones, Hagane, Crusader of Centy, Keio Flying Squadron. So much shit that is now worth a small fortune.
When I sold most of my stuff, which was a few hundred games, I raised about $7000.00 to replace the engine in my car. The really sad part is now that just a few of those turbo games are worth that now. I literally sold about 70 of the most sought after nes games, and about the same for snes, and genny. Probably about 40 boxed hu-cards, and close to that many CD games. Then there was snatcher, shining force cd, popful mail, etc...
If I knew then what I know now, I would have said fuck the car, and bought a nice used truck, or muscle car.
Thankfully though I saved most my MVS carts. Which I paid on average $15-$30 each for. I think the most expensive MVS game I purchased was Pulstar for like $120.00, and mark of the wolves for $60.00, but other than that they were super cheap titles, that now command on average quadruple what I paid if not more.
It's really hard to complain though. Even though I dumped my stuff, I only paid $120.00 for my magical chase with manual, and about the same for dynastic hero. Sold those for $675.00 each, and after my samurai V special ebay sale last year, which I paid $220.00 for and sold for exactly $1000.00 profit after fees, I think I haven't really paid much at all for my game collection, which is still pretty nice.
I learned my lesson though. I'm never selling games I truly love again unless they too high in value to justify owning. Like in the thousands. My DS stuff is staying in my hands, because I see that console being as collectible as the NES in the future. It was a great system that was incredibly popular, and will have a loyal fan base of collectors. Same for the PSP, except it will be more like the turbo, acting as an ugly stepchild that people don't realize how damn good it is till 15 years have lapsed, and shit gets crazy.
